Hi folks,
Well first of all welcome to the new Games Soc Newsletter! We here on the
committee hate spam just as much as you guys so we decided to condense all
our weekly news into one complete mail, hope you like it!
Right so, onto business...as you probably know we've been extremely active
this semester events wise and its not gona be slowing up anytime soon, on
the contrary we have loads more great events lined up for you guys in the
coming few months.
::[ Lab Gaming ]::
Lab Gaming is finally in full swing and our Counter-Strike Tournament last
week was a great success. Congratulations to those who made the team!
Next week we'll have more variety with Age of Empires 2 and Starcraft being
installed for you strategy gamers. Also look out for an RTS Tournament in
the future. If there's other games you're interested in be sure to let us
know on the night!
::[Console Gaming]::
Well our console nights for this semester are almost over but it?s not too
late to join in and have a bit fun! The current leader for our Semester
One Tournament is, unsurprisingly enough, William Lacey (Shadow) but all
that could change as we still have one more game to get through!
Due to lab gaming we have had to move to Wednesday nights and there is further
confusion still! Our console night this coming Wednesday, December 1st many
not be going ahead as planned due to a double booking on the room. I?m trying
to arrange and alternative and I?ll let ye know what is happening as soon
as I can. In the mean time keep checking out http://games.redbrick.dcu.ie
for more up to date info.
We've also added Halo 2 and Worms World Party to our current line up of
games so come along if you want to try out these great new games!
::[Overnight Lans & BYOPC]::
We're still working on our Bring Your Own PC event for December and we'll
let everyone know as soon as a date is set. BYOPC is a fantastic overnight
gaming event that everyone should try. Those of you who were at the BYOPC
in Summer will know how much fun they can be, and next time we should be
able to supply monitors for those who require them to save some hassle.
::[ Games Talk ]::
We're finally putting the finishing touches to next semesters Game Talks,
we'll be having representitives from the likes of Havok, Torc Interactive,
TKO and Pro Audio to give you information on what they do and the best ways
to get into the games industry. Check out the site for the most up-to-date
info regarding the dates for these events!
::[ Other Events ]::

The Games Soc Committee.
Hey folks,
As some of you may already know CSD have challenged us to a game of Counter-Strike
to celebrate the beginning of our Lab Gaming this year. And so this THURSDAY
at 7pm in C206 in the Henry Gratten Building we'll be having a Tournament
to select our 5 man team to go up against CSD.
The tournament will run as follows...
There will be a number of 5 man teams randomly selected who will face off
against each other. The top players from these matches will then progress
and new teams will be selected. At the end of this process we will have
chosen our 5 man DCU team.
While the games are being played people will be able to either watch the
game being played on the projector or play any of the other games on the
machines, hence you guys wont be sitting around doing nothing...
For those who don't want to enter the tournament there will still be the
regular selection of games available for play during the night...
It promises to be a great evening so we'd encourage you all to make an appearance...
Hope to see you all there,
The Games Soc Committee
Folks,
To accommodate Lab-Gaming we have moved the console nights to Wednesdays
starting form this week onwards. We are still in the Seminar room and the
times for the events are as follows:
Wednesday 24th November - 6:30pm onwards - Burnout 3
Wednesday 1st December - 4:00pm onwards - TBA
Apologies for the early start on Wednesday December 1st, another group have
the room booked from 7pm onwards and so we need to start a good bit earlier.
Hope to see you all there!
Committee
It's mind over matter:
I Mind and that's all that Matters....
Hey ya,
Just to let you know that there is NO lab gaming tonight! This is because
the lab is already booked for a photoshop tutorial between ourselves and Redbrick.
Come along if your interested in learning how to make great looking posters etc.
Lab Gaming will be going regularly from next week onwards!
Cheers,
John

<Yossarian> Hrm, if I'm not winning 'sweetest ass' - and my ass is winning for
being hairy in 'best hair' - then logic would dictate that drusilla has one
hell of a hairy arse. *ponders*
Hey ya,
Just to remind you that the console tournament continues this
Thursday with round Three. Free food and soft drink will be provided.
More info on the lab gaming and upcoming byopc will be sent out later!
Note NEXT week the date of our console nights will change to
allow people to do both the tournament and lab gaming. The day will be
announced sometime during the week ;)
Cheers,
Games Soc cmt.
