Hey folks,
Sorry for a second mail but we have so much coming up both this week and
next week that we thought it'd be a better idea to break the annnounce
mails up.
Anyway, next week is Week 5 and as such well be holding our semesterly
Bring Your Own PC LAN event. This is one of our largest and most popular
events and this semesters event will be no different. This event is run
over two days, Saturday March 11th through to Sunday March 12th. Saturday
will kick off at between 1 and 2pm which will give you guys plenty of time
to set up your rigs. The event will then continue on through the day and
night until midday on Sunday. Throughout the weekend well be running a
series of competitions in Quake 3, Counter Strike, Dawn Of War and a
mystery game which will be announced on the day. Outside of the
competitions well also be playing the likes of Unreal Tournament 2004,
Battlefield Vietnam / Battlefield 2 and 1nsane.
Entry for this event is 10 for members and there will be a Games Soc
table set up in the Henry Gratten to take names and collect the entry fee
this Thursday and on another day next week. Note, we will not be admitting
people who turn up on the night due to the fact that we are expecting a
larger crowd than at previous events of this nature.
More details on this event will follow but this is just to make sure you
guys know about it and are able to make the necessary arrangements.

Now as many of you probably know its TechWeek this week here in DCU and as
part of this Games Soc will be running its own events. First up is a talk
by Tony Kelly of Torc Interactive, one of Irelands largest and most
exciting game developers. He will be speaking tomorrow, Tuesday Feb 28th,

Games as a business, Games as a career & how to break into the

also be of interest to those wishing to see the direction the games
industry here in Ireland is heading and the industry leading technologies
it is producing. Check out http://www.torcinteractive.com for more info.
Next up will be a Console Freeplay session from 4 6pm on Thursday. At

chillout.
Then straight after that, our Lab Gaming sessions will be resuming in C204
in the Henry Gratten. The session will start at 6pm but as most of you
know the room fills up pretty quickly so come early to make sure you get a

Hey folks,
Just a final reminder that our Halo 2 Team Tournament will be taking place
TOMORROW, Feb 22nd in the Seminar Room in the Hub from 1pm - 5pm.
The competition will be run as follows:
We will start off with a few rounds of single player Deathmatch in order
to gauge the skill level of each of the players. Once this has been
achieved the committee will then choose balanced teams based on the
results of the single player games. This will ensure that all teams are
balanced and the competition is fair.
The teams formed will then take place in league based competition with the
top 2 teams making their way to the final and chance at winning the top
prize.
The top prize for the Tournament will be 20 Gamestop Voucher per member
of the winning team.
Refreshments will be provided throughout the day and it should be a great
laugh to boot so hopefully we'll see you all there.
