Hi all,
Unfortunately we have to announce that the BYOPC LAN scheduled to take
place this weekend has been cancelled.
We apologise for giving such late notice of the cancellation but we have
literally been working up to this very minute attempting to resolve the
situation.
The reason for the cancellation is apparently that there has been a lack
of communication between the DCU Estates Office and DCU Security. It's
probably best not to delve into specific details of what caused the
issue here, but we can assure you that up until this morning we were
100% certain that the LAN would go ahead and had been given guarantees from
the Estates Office that this was the case. We've ran LANs on campus for
several years now and we would not have announced it and opened up
signups unless we were completely certain that the event would go ahead.
We have been screwed over.
Once again we'd like to apologise for the cancellation and the late
notice given. We hope to schedule another event of this nature in
Semester 2 to make up for this one.

Kev

Hey guys,
Warpcon is the annual gaming convention held in UCC (University College
Cork), to which Stocs/GamesSoc have made annual trips. It is awesome. You
should all go. It is being held on the 23rd-25th of January. Gamessoc will
be subsidising accomodation, hopefully it wont cost ye anything, but not
more than a fiver a head. Entry for the entire weekend will be covered,
and if you keep your bus reciepts you will get a portion of them back.
Warpcon is one of the largest cons in the country, and I would encourage
you all to come and drink/game with us.
As accomodation is snapped up fairly quickly, the last day for putting
your name down under Games Soc is the 1st of December. Due to issues we
have had with other conventions, and due to the relatively high cost to
Games Soc, I will require a deposit of €20 which will be returned on the
friday of the convention. As UCC have rather inconsiderately organised
this event in the last weekend of our exam period, anyone who pays a
deposit and then finds that they have exams in the period of Friday
23rd-30th of Jan (The end of the exam period) will have their deposit
refunded. Also, as some associate members have outstanding debts to the
society, Games Soc will not be booking places or organising tickets for
any associate until the funds are repayed in full.
Please post on the thread in the forums or email me at dennis.mccartney25
at mail.dcu.ie if you are want to go. If you require information about the
con, visit www.warpcon.com

Monday evening *must* attend a meeting at 6pm in CG06 this Thursday or
they will not be playing. We need to take photographs of each entrant and
check that an entry fee has been paid, so please make sure to attend.
