Hey folks, Sorry for the late announce mail, I was doing things. Here's the rundown for this week: - QCon Trip - Weekly events - QCon Trip 25th - 27th June 2010 - Dan phrased this better then me so here: This time of the year again eh? We're making the trip up to Belfast for Q-con this June and we'll be funding the majority of the costs for any of our members that want to go! Q-con is a really good convention and if you have nothing else to do, you should come along for a fun filled weekend with Games Soc. There's plenty to do including console gaming, roleplaying games, wargaming, card games, a pub quiz, anime showings and even cosplaying if you're into it. For more details about the convention hit them up at their website. http://www.q-con.org.uk/ So if you're interested in going and haven't already told us, email us back or reply to this thread and we'll add you to the list. We'll announce soon the total cost for the trip. If you're an associate and interested in going, just tell us and we'll book it for you (just no funding!). - Weekly Events - They're all on this week, you are more likely at traditional as I'm sending this so that's proof enough. If they're not on then feel free to punch any of our respective officers in the gonads. I'd love to say I hope you're all studying and well prepared for the exams but fuck that just keep playing games and drink heavily and I'm sure you'll pass anyway. Howdy y'all, All our weekly events are on as normal this week so I'm going to yakk on about our most excellent Easter LAN and the bodacious Q-Con. But first the AGM results: Congratulations to everyone who got elected at this years AGM! Below is the list of the new committee. Chairperson: Oisin Kelly Secretary: David McHugh Treasurer: Kilian Sullivan Webmaster: David Kiernan Console Gaming: Richard Watson Lab Gaming: Vadim Clyne-Kelly T&T: Stephen Walsh, Craig Duff Trips & Events: Dan Jack Extraordinary: George Marcos PRO was not elected and there will be an EGM next semester for the position. - BYOPC Easter LAN - Okay heres the short version in case you know most details, starting Saturday 12pm, ends Sunday 12pm. Located in the Helix in "The Space". Entry fee is €10. Tournaments listed below. Delicious Easter Eggs for all! Detailed info on the LAN below - Signing up - What to bring - How to get there - Tournaments - What to play - Signing up - The entry fee is €10 on the day and just so you all know you can signup on our site at http://games.dcu.ie/#signup3 If you have a account you should be signed up automatically otherwise just supply your email address and you're good to go. - What to bring - This is a BYOPC LAN so you'll need a PC obviously, but you'll also need a extension cord, Cat-5 cable and snacks. We have cords and cables to spare but please bring your own in case of shortages. - How to get there - We'll be set up in the Helix in the Space this time. To get in take the stage door entry on the side of the Helix marked on the map here: http://www.redbrick.dcu.ie/~paraflux/gs/campus.gif - Tournaments - Polls are locked and your choices for tournaments are the following: Solo FPS: Warsow Team FPS: Enemy Territory RTS: Starcraft 2 (Fuck Halo Wars) Glorious prizes for the winners and harsh beatings for the losers! - What to play - We'll be playing plenty of games but just to name a few: Quake 3 Call of Duty 4 Dawn of War 2: Retribution Left 4 Dead 2 Defence of the Ancients Age Of Empires 2 Diablo 2 Of course I strongly suggest you fill your PC to the brim with games for the LAN, you never know just what to play at a LAN so its best to bring everything. - Q-Con Trip - QCon is on the 24th - 26th of June and Games Soc's going to it. It's located in Belfast at Queens University. We have 20 places and most of the cost will be funded by Games Soc. Simply email us back if your interested in going. [Announce-gamesoc] Week 10: AGM, Easter LAN and Hoodies

Howdy folks, Hope you're all just laying back and relaxing this week in the sun. I know I am with a chilled drink, extension cable, TV, PS3 and Katamari Forever. Some say its dangerous to have a extension cable leading all the way to the beach but their worries roll away on my Katamari. Here's this weeks roundup: - AGM - Easter BYOPC LAN - Hoodies - Weekly Events - AGM - So here we are, another year and another AGM. Our AGM will be held in room CG01 at 7pm this Tuesday. Here we'll be voting up a new committee for the following year and just unwind, talk about delicious food or how clouds look like things. If you're interested in what positions there are to go for, no worries I got you covered: - Chairperson - Secretary - Treasurer - Webmaster - Public Relations Officer (PRO) - Console Events Officer - PC Events Officer - Traditional Officers (2 positions) - Events Officer - Extraordinary Member That's all our positions and we've love to see some of our great members who want to do more for this most excellent society by joining up to the committee. - Easter BYOPC LAN - Now on to our main event the Easter BYOPC LAN. For those not in the know, BYOPC stands for Bring Your Own PC. The LAN will be on the 23rd- 24th of April starting at 12pm Saturday and ending 12pm the following Sunday. We'll be situated in the Helix but back into the Space this time. There will be tournaments and they're voted by you so head on to http://games.dcu.ie/forums/index.php?board=2.0 and vote what games you want to run. It's €10 for entry and to sign up go to http://www.byopc.dcu.ie - Hoodies - Just for anybody that has yet to collect their hoodies this week is the last week to collect them and if you dont they'll be sold to members after. So to collect just ask a committee member at any of our events and have €22 on you for the hoodie. - Weekly Events - On as usual starting with Traditional on Monday & Wednesday at 6pm in C165, Consoles on Wednesday at 2pm in the Old bar and Lab Gaming on Thursday at 6pm in room C204. Film night will not be on this week due to the AGM but fret not for it shall return with more of the films you...tolerate. Hey all, This is just a reminder that the Clubs and Societies Awards is taking place tonight at 9pm in the Helix. We've got a load of spare tickets and it's completely free to go, so if you're interested in going just reply to this email to let us know and show up tonight! I'll give you a ticket there. Also, the awards is a formal event so a suit or dress is required. It's one of the best events of the year so if you have nothing important to do, I'd recommend coming along. [Announce-gamesoc] Week 9: LAN, Greed Corp Tournament, Ultramarines and Society Awards Ball

Hey everybody, Hope you're all well rested and ready for this week. Here's the roundup: - Easter BYOPC LAN - Greed Corp Tournament - Ultramarines Movie Night - Society Awards - Console Gaming - Traditional Gaming - AGM - Hoodies - Easter BYOPC LAN - It's that time again! Thats right this April 23rd - 24th we'll be holding our second BYOPC LAN of the year. Held in the prestigious Helix, we'll be located in "The Space" and we'll have non-stop gaming from 12pm Saturday to 12pm Sunday. There's going to be crap loads of tournaments, prizes, gaming marathons, races and more. It'll be €10 per entry and we're taking sign ups via our new site just go to http://www.byopc.dcu.ie to sign up for the LAN. - Greed Corp Tournament - This week at 6pm Thursday in room C204 we'll be holding a Greed Corp Tournament. It'll be 4 people per match and 1st place takes the prize. €2 entry. - Ultramarines Movie Night - This Tuesday at 6pm we're going to show Ultramarines in room CG01. This is a tale of a lone squad of ultramarines and the mystery of the missing Imperial Fists. From what I've seen it's a romantic comedy, find out more here: http://www.ultramarinesthemovie.com/ - Society Awards - The Awards are one Wednesday and of course your's truly will be attending among other people who you do not care about. We have 7 tickets left so if you'd like to go just email us back and we'll have your ticket at one of our events for you. These tickets are free so you'll just need to bring money for drinks and such. The awards start at 9pm so we're going to end traditional gaming at 8pm for them. It's formal dress also in case your going. - Traditional Gaming - Monday will be on as normal at 6pm in room C165 but, as said above, Wednesday will ending early for the awards. - Console Gaming - Consoles will be on Wednesday at 2pm in the Old Bar. We'll have plenty of games and grub for you to feast on so be sure to head down. - AGM - Just another reminder that our AGM is on April 12th in room CG01 at 7pm. - Hoodies - If you've ordered a hoodie then just head to any of our events this week and ask one of our committee members for you hoodie. It'll be €22 for the hoodie. That's all this week, hope you have a good time and we'll see you at events.
