Hey all,
Hope you're all enjoying the long weekend, and the lead-up to
Halloween!

--EGM--
We're having our First Year Rep. election this Wednesday in XG14
before Trad Gaming. It shouldn't take too long, so come along and have
your say in who the new First Year Rep is. If you're interested in
running, please email us with your name, stating that you wish to take
part in the election.
--Console Gaming--
Before our EGM, we'll be having Console Gaming in XG16 from 2pm. The
usual Xbox 360s, PS3s, Wii and WiiU will be set up, so come along and
have some fun killing each other in things. We'll also have a Geometry
Wars tournament this week. Sign-ups will be taken until 3pm, and will
cost €2.
There will also be a trophy this week in Console Gaming for winning a
game of Divekick by using the YOLO Gem, while your opponent can not
use the YOLO Gem.
--Trad Gaming--
Since it's a rather short week, we aren't going to have Trad Gaming on
Monday, but it will be on Wednesday as usual! Come along and play, as
there should be some very nicely themed games there!
--No PC Gaming--
As Halloween is Thursday and our PC Events Officer is away on Tuesday,
there will be no PC Gaming this week. The PCs will hopefully be imaged
soon, and we hope to have more information in next week's
announcement.
--Hoodies--
We're taking orders for hoodies at all of our events until the end of
week 6, unless there is a large number of people still wishing to
place orders. It'll be €25, and you will have to pay in advance to
have your name put down.
--Humans vs Zombies--
We're still taking signups for Humans vs Zombies, which will run in
week 7 this year. Signups are being taken at http://games.dcu.ie/hvz.
This is not your main GamesSoc website account, and make sure that you
join the game on the "View Game" screen after you sign up.

Hey all,
Just letting you know a few quick things.
First, we found out today that we can subsidise some of the cost for
some people to go to Gaelcon. There are 13 places left, and we can pay
for approximately €15. You'll have to buy your own ticket and bring a
receipt for it to one of our weekly events and we can give you a
cheque covering the difference. The tickets are about €28, and the
first 13 people to reply to this email telling us that you're going
will be subsidised.
We've decided that Humans vs Zombies will now take place in week 7.
We'd like to once more apologise for any inconvenience caused by the
postponing of the event, but we promise it'll still be great fun!
Also, this evening at about 7pm, there will be an Attack On Titan
tournament in C204 for a trophy. Good luck to everyone!
Regards,
Niall Gaffney

Hey all,
Some bad news this week everybody: due to some problems we've been
having with the number of signups for Humans Vs Zombies we've decided
to postpone the event to be held during another week. We'll update
everyone soon about when the event we'll now be held, so don't worry.
Apologies about this, but it will be worth the wait! You can still
sign up for the event here: http://games.dcu.ie/hvz/register.php and
we'll let everyone know what the story is when we figure it all out.
On to the usual stuff!
--EGM--
--Hoodies--
--Trad Gaming: Mon 6pm - 10pm XG01, Wed 6pm - 10pm XG14--
--Console Gaming: Wed 2pm - 6pm XG16--
--Web PC Gaming: Thurs 6pm - 10pm C204--
--EGM--
Our EGM to elect a First Year Rep will be held at 6pm on Wednesday
30th October in XG16, right before Trad gaming. We'll confirm the time
and location between now and then. If you'd like to put your name
forward for the position, or just find out what the position entails,
just email the committee.
--Hoodies--
We'll be placing a hoodie order soon! We don't have all the details
worked out yet, but when we know, you'll know. They should be close to
the same as last year, which was €25, and we will need a full deposit
before we place the order. We'll let everyone know when we start
taking money for the hoodies. If you want to know more about the
hoodies, you can ask one of the committee members at any of the
events, or email us.
--Trad Gaming--
Traditional and Tabletop gaming will once more be on from 6pm - 10pm
on Monday in XG01 and 6pm - 10pm on Wednesday in XG14. We'll have all
our usual games like Ascension, Bang! and Risk. One of our Trad
Officers, Rob, is planning a small Connect4 tournament on Monday, so
come along and see who can line up counters better! There'll be a
prize of a trophy, so if you win you'll be one step closer to being
the King of GamesSoc!
As well as all of that, we hope to hold a Magic the Gathering draft in
a few weeks, more details will be made available closer to the time.
--Console Gaming--
Console gaming's back again after the great success of the Black Ops 2
tournament from last week. Thanks to all who took part, and we hope to
see you again for some more fun! We'll have our usual PS3s, Xbox 360s,
Wii and WiiU set up.
--Web PC Gaming--
On Tuesday, we'll be having another browser-based PC Gaming session
because the computers haven't been set up yet. It will take place in
C204 from 6pm onwards. A few people went last week, and it was good
fun, so come along again and play things like Attack on Titan and
Starwhals!

Hey all,
Just letting you know that the Humans vs Zombies web page is now up
and running. You can sign up for the game here:
http://games.dcu.ie/hvz/index.php
Keep in mind that this is not the same as your GamesSoc website
account. You will have to register for this as well.
The rules have been changed slightly this year, so make sure you read
over them. Once you have registered, log in and click "View Game", and
then join the game.
If you want the chance to be one of the Original Zombies, make sure to
tick the box before you finish joining the game.
We'll be giving out headbands on Monday next week in the Hub, so you
can pick those up there.
Also, there will be a briefing this Thursday at 5pm, given by Fionn,
our Trad Officer. We're not sure where it will be. Another email will
be sent out soon confirming the location.
Good luck,
Niall Gaffney
DCU Games Society Secretary 2013-2014

late, and there should be some great drinks deals and maybe even some
food. Hope to see you all there! If you need more information, the
event page is right here:

--Trad Gaming--
This week, Traditional and Tabletop gaming will take place from 6pm -
10pm in XG01 on Monday evening, and at the same time in XG14 on
Wednesday evening. We'll have loads of fun games like Dominion, Game
of Thrones, Werewolves, and more. Make sure you come along to one of
the most popular nights of gaming!
--Console Gaming--
Our first tournament of the year happens this week in Console gaming
with Black Ops 2 on the Xbox 360. It will take place on Wednesday from
2pm - 6pm in XG16. Entry for the tournament will be €2. Signups will
take place from 2pm, and it will start at 3pm. The prize for this
tournament is a €20 Gamestop voucher, so come along for your chance to
win!
We'll also have our usual PS3s, Wii, and WiiU set up if you're not
interested in participating in the tournament!
--No PC Gaming--
We're still going through the process of having the lab set up, so PC
gaming is, sadly, not on for another few weeks. Don't worry though, it
will be back soon. Like you, Padraig (our PC Events Officer) is very
sad that it's not on this week.
--King of GamesSoc--
This year, we have decided to host a new event which will run until
the end of the second semester. The event is called King of GamesSoc.
For every tournament, whether it be consoles, PC, or trad, we will
give out trophies on the GamesSoc website. Trophies will also be given
out for other challenges set by the members of the committee.
Why does this concern you? Because the first trophy will be given out
today. Later on, there will be a post with the full rules on the
GamesSoc Facebook page, and the first person to comment on it will
receive the first trophy. Keep in mind, that you will have to register
for the GamesSoc website (http://games.dcu.ie) to participate.
At the end of the year, the person who has the most trophies will be
crowned King of GamesSoc, so make sure you come along to as many
events as possible to have the best chance!
--Humans vs Zombies--
We're holding Humans vs Zombies again this year with Paintball Soc in
week 4. You can find out all of the rules at http://games.dcu.ie/hvz.
Signups should be opened this week, so stay tuned!
The event will run from Monday - Friday, and signups will be free.
We'll also have a raffle at the start for a few nerf guns. Single
tickets will be 50c, and a row of tickets (5 tickets) will cost €2.
The aim of the game for Humans is to stay alive, while stunning
zombies by shooting them with nerf guns. The Zombies have to infect
the humans by catching them. Zombies wear headbands, while humans wear
armbands. A zombie will starve after 24 hours if they have not
infected any humans. Each human has a kill pin which a zombie must
enter on the website in order to register the kill.
That's all for today!
GLHF,
Niall Gaffney
