[Announce-gamessoc] Week 5 - Pub Quiz, AGM and 48 Hour LAN

We have got a lot to talk about this week so let's get right to it! So without further delay here is what is happening this week: -- Trad Gaming - As Normal [Mon,Wed] -- -- Console Gaming - As Normal [Wed] -- -- AGM [9th March] -- -- Pub Quiz [16th March] -- -- 48 Hour LAN [22nd-24th April] -- -- Name four things that make Trad gaming great; Board games, card games, laughs and more! Trad returns as normal for this week. You can find Trad Gaming on Mondays in XG01 from 6-10pm and on Wednesdays in XG01 from 5-10pm. -- -- Last week's Towerfall Ascension tournament was great and intense! Thanks to everyone who turned up and played! We return to normal for this week. You can find Console Gaming with all of it's Tv's, consoles and games on Wednesdays from 2-5pm in XG01. -- -- Just to remind you all that on the 9th of March we will be having our AGM! During this we decide on next year's committee so if you want to be a part of said committee or have a say who gets elected then this a date to remember! The following positions are available to run for: -Chairperson -Secretary -Treasurer -Public Relations Officer -Trips & Events Officer -Webmaster -Console Gaming Officer -PC Gaming Officer (x2) -Trad Gaming Officer (x2) The event begins at 6pm so make sure you are there! If you want further information about the AGM, the positions themselves feel free to ask us in person or via email! And to run for any of the positions make sure to email us your name, student number and position(s) you want to run for! games(a)redbrick.dcu.ie And before you ask yes...there will be pizza, oh yes, there will be pizza. We are still working on a venue for the quiz so make sure to keep an eye our on the event page (see below) or the emails! It will however be on the 16th of March so make sure you are free! Pub Quiz Facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/215411888811678/ -- -- Once again this year we shall be hosting our 48 Hour LAN in DCU! We shall be running it from the 22nd of April at 6pm to the 24th at 6pm. For those unaware, our LAN comprises of everyone bringing their PCs and Laptops to DCU and playing games, entering in tournaments and trying to stay awake for 48 Hours straight! (Don't worry you can go home to sleep and come back at anytime during the event. We will also have a special sleeping area so you can bring a pillow and blanket or sleeping bag or whatever in case travel is inconvenient for you.) And for those who don't have a PC or Laptop or can't bring their own no worries we shall be bringing our Console and Trad games to the event as well so there is something for everyone to enjoy and to give the PC players a break every once in a while. Entry to the LAN is €25 and that includes entry into any and all tournaments we will be running during the event for which all will have prizes! We haven't decided the tournaments or their prizes yet however we have been sponsored by Logitech with them donating TWO G910 Orion Spectrum mechanical gaming keyboards and TWO G502 Proteus Core Tunable Gaming mice (which retail at €189 and €75 each respectively) If any of your friends outside of DCU want to attend then make sure you let them know they can! Non-DCU students can attend as well! [Announce-gamessoc] Week 4 - Upcoming AGM and Towerfall Tournament!

Welcome back for your weekly dose of Gamessoc news straight to your email! So without further delay here is what is happening this week: -- Trad Gaming - As Normal [Mon,Wed] -- -- Console Gaming - Towerfall Tournament [Wed] -- -- PC Gaming: Update -- -- Upcoming AGM: Week 6 -- -- If it isn't broke then don't fix it, our wonderful night of Trad marches forward in all their splendour! Featuring board games, card games and more! You can find Trad Gaming on Mondays in XG01 from 6-10pm and on Wednesdays in XG01 from 5-10pm. -- -- The fast paced, high flying, high falling, arrow slinging 4-man free for all game for all is our tournament this week! That' right, it's TowerFall Ascension! The game is pretty simple, you control a single archer who has a limited number of arrows to try and shoot down the enemy players. There are power-ups to collect, extra and special arrows (such as lazer and bomb types) to use as well! Be on your toes, it's one hit kills! If you have never played it no worries it's easy to learn and a lot of fun. It will be set up before the tournament so you can get some practice in before you duke it out! Sign-ups from 2pm-3pm and tournament starts from approx. 3pm onwards. 2 entry fee. You can find Console Gaming with all of it's Tv's, consoles and games on Wednesdays from 2-5pm in XG01. -- -- So last week we hoped that PC Gaming would have returned in all it's glory however problems with imaging the PCs have pushed that back. We hope to have it running this week and we will send out another email confirming this, so when we know make sure to keep an eye out for it! Provisionally PC Gaming will be in C214 from 6pm-10 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. So please be patient while we get this up and running and keep an eye on your email! -- -- It's coming up to that time of year again where we decide who will lead the society for the next year! It's our AGM! Apart form hearing how the society is getting along we elect the positions for next year which are as follows: Chair Secretary Treasurer Webmaster Public Relations Officer Trips and Events Officer Console Officer Trad Officer (x2) PC Officer (x2) Remember that anyone can apply for any position listed above. If you want to ask us anything about the positions themselves or about the AGM feel free to email us ask on Facebook or even in person! Keep these in mind while we move forward as next week we will have the day, location and time for the AGM in week 6. Another weekend gone another week of getting up early for lectures and assignments, but hey you have Gamessoc so you know, silver lining. Unlikely you managed to play them all so why not come around to play the rest of them! We will have some good old games too so don't you worry! This week we go back to our regular schedule of Console goodness! [Announce-gamessoc] Week 2 - Rocket League Tournament, AGM, Hoodies and Q-con!

Evening everyone! I hope you are settling in well into the new semester and have had fun last week with us at Gamessoc! So without further delay here is what is happening this week: -- Trad Gaming - New Board Games! [Mon,Wed] -- -- Console Gaming - 1v1 Rocket League Tournament [Wed] -- -- Q-Con Convention Details -- -- Gamessoc Hoodies -- -- AGM -- -- Board games are great, but you know what's better? New board games! That's right boys and girls we just got a bunch of new games including Dead of Winter, Sheriff of Nottingham, Coup, Codenames and more! So be sure to come to Trad this week to get your hands these goodies! You can find Trad Gaming on Mondays in XG01 from 6-10pm and on Wednesdays in XG01 from 5-10pm. -- -- I heard you guys like Rocket League, so you peeps get a Rocket League Tournament! Here's the details: Matches are 1v1 First to 5 goals 5 Minutes per Match Sign-ups from 2pm-3pm Tournament start at 3pm Anyway I hope to see you guys there for the tournament to the wonderful sequel to Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars! You can find Console Gaming on Wednesdays from 2-5pm in XG01. -- -- Ever heard of Q-Con? No? Ok well let me tell you a little bit about it. Q-Con is a big anime and gaming convention held in Belfast every year that we as Gamessoc attend for the weekend and have a great time! This is one of the biggest events we hold each year and it's definitely something not to be missed! Between entering game tournaments(Video, Trad and Card), watching anime screening, attending panels and talks from guests, achieving victory at the pub quiz, seeing all the great cosplay and having a laugh with friends in a once off pen and paper RPG there is something for everyone! Then once you have had your fill at the con you retire to the Queens College accommodation (elms village) where we will be staying for the weekend to eat junk food, play games, have some drink and possibly play Ninja into the wee hours of the morning all to do it again the next day! Right! Hopefully that has got you at least interested in Q-Con so here are some details! Currently there is no date confirmed for 2016 but last year it was in late June so we expect it to be around that time this as well. We will let you all know when we know! So for the low price of approx. €70 you get the bus to and from DCU to the accommodation, the weekend ticket for the Con and the 3 nights stay at said accommodation. We are able to bring an extra 5 people this year so we can have a group as big as 30! We will start taking names once we get a confirmation on the date of the con and the cost of the trip. If you want to know more in the mean time don't hesitate to ask us as we can tell you more about the con in general and specifics in detail for questions. -- -- What's a Society without Hoodies? Want a Gamessoc that you might have seen around? Well have we got a deal for you! For €25 you can have your very own Gamessoc hoodie! You can get either a hoodie or a zippy (linked below) with the Gamessoc logo on it which should look something like this!: http://www.camdenclothing.ie/men/hoodies/college-hoodie.html http://www.camdenclothing.ie/men/hoodies/heavy-blend-zip-hoodie.html So we will be taking a €15 deposit for these hoodies and if you want one make sure you email us telling whether you want a Hoodie or a Zippy and what color you want it in! We will be taking orders for 2 weeks so if you want'em let us know! -- -- Our AGM (Annual General Meeting) will be taking place this semester during week 6. If you are unfamiliar with what an AGM is or what we do during one here's how it works. During the AGM we briefly talk about the society but most importantly this is when we elect the committee for the following year. Every position is available to run for except for the First Year Rep which gets elected from new first years during the start of the academic year. Then after the newly elected committee have a committee meeting with the current members.
