Week 6: Humans vs Zombies

Sup guys,

Firstly, congratulations to Sean Hammond, who was elected our second Console Officer last week. Woo.

Our craziest and spookiest week of the year has arrived, along with a particularly contagious zombie virus. We have events running all week to keep you on your toes, so I'll try to keep it brief, but honestly it's going to be an absolute blast!

Humans vs Zombies

Humans vs Zombies begins at 12pm tomorrow (Monday), so you need to sign up and collect your band before then. Sign up here and keep updated by RSVP-ing to the event here. At 12pm the Original Zombies will be released, and they'll be anonymous for an hour, or until they infect 5 humans. From that point on, have your Nerf guns at the ready and be prepared to stun or run! Safety is super important during events like these, so please check out the website for more information on the rules and play zones. Feel free to send an email/facebook message if you're unsure about anything, too.

Night Events

As well as the usual madness of Humans vs Zombies, we'll be holding special night events on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 6pm. We'll meet at The Street in the Henry Grattan, and there'll be 30 minutes of immunity before and after the events (meaning zombies can't infect any humans), so you can arrive protected. Each mission will be in a different style, and affects the overall outcome of the game. More information will be revealed throughout the week, so keep an eye out and be ready for anything.

Face Painting

Postgrad Society and Clay Target Shooting Club will be face painting for human warriors in The Street tomorrow from 5pm, and they'll also be providing some rolled up socks for your protection.

Circus Society and Fotosoc will be doing zombie face painting and a spooky photo booth in the minor hall of the Sports Centre from 2pm until 5pm on Wednesday too, a great chance to get some funky, memorable pictures.

St Pats Campus

Brainz-themed Mindfulness Day will be taking place in Java on St Pats Campus from 10am until 2pm, hosted by the Psychology Society. Also on St Pats Campus, Harry Potter Society will be holding a zombie-themed Potions Night. It'll begin at 6:30pm in E301 and be followed by a trip to Everleigh.

Trad & Console Gaming

Console Gaming will be held from 2pm until 5pm in XG01, and I'm sure it'll run smoother than ever with our 2 Console Officers. This week we'll be having a Nidhogg 2 tournament, and there'll be a €20 GameStop voucher for the winner. If you haven't played Nidhogg or Nidhogg 2 before, it's super easy to pick up, and experience isn't really much of a benefit. Sign ups begin at 2pm, and there's a €2 entry fee. We'll have all the usual games there too.

Trad Gaming will be taking place on Monday 6-10pm, and Wednesday 5-10pm in XG01. Come along and try out the spookiest games we have, while staying safe from the zombies.

Demonware Talk

There'll be a Demonware talk in L101 at 5pm on Monday. Demonware provides online services for Activision games, including Call of Duty. Engineers at Demonware will talk about working in the gaming industry and challenges associated with providing online services for one of the worlds largest entertainment franchises.

I hope to see you all running around with orange head/arm bands throughout the week. Honestly, HvZ was the most fun I had all last year so if you haven't signed up yet, you really should.
