Just to remind all those interested in DCUtv, we are having a meeting on
Tuesday in C114 at 6pm. If you are interested in helping make any of our
programmes, come along and put your name down for one of them. I've detailed
most of them below. Take a quick look and see if anything grabs you. We
also want to run through our plans for this semester.
Projects:
Irish speaking in Dublin
Some filming has been done for this project already. Thomand our station
manager would like people to film more stuff and then she will edit together
the final programme.
Busking and streetlife in Ireland
Karen Howley is behind this project, but needs people to help her with filming
and ultimately editing this programme together. Karen will have the use
of the new radio mic. and will be visiting Galway and Belfast on her travels.
Documentary about Halls of Residence
This ones my baby as I have sooo many issues with res. ( building noise,
fines, overnight visitors, security double standards, slow repairs etc etc
etc...!) I have help researching this at the moment but need a lot more
help with filming interviews etc...
Snowboarding documentary
This has been filmed on the recent trip by 55 dcu students to France. I
have all the footage from the holiday, now I just have to interview a couple
of the committee members, a couple of the students who went, and record
a voice-over for the video. Again, help is needed to do this.
Sketch Idea
We have an excellent idea for a short sketch. We need someone to script
it, a 7 year old kid to act in it (!) and a team of people willing to bring
this together. Interested?
'My Street'
Basically, this is just a sketch following a student walking down the street
that they live in. They point to various houses and talk about the neighbours
who live there. We are giving out the mps camera to people who want to film
short scenes in the houses ie. just filming a quick piece in their own house
or apartment and then we'll be stringing them all together. this gives everyone
the chance to contribute if they wish.
Dating Programme
A couple of 3rd year multimedia's are keen to make a programme about dating
which will involve plucking random dcu students out of their everyday routines
and sending them on a blind date with another student. All will be filmed
again, using radio mics.

yo radio geeks,
apologies for those of you who are not radiogeeks/geeks in general/or if
you're getting this email twice!! you can stop reading now.
just a mail to let those who aren't in the Media Production Society or those
who haven't tuned in in a while (sorry, no pun intended!) know about DCUfm
which will go on air on monday 8th march.
there's already been a few meetings about it already but i have attached
a timetable to give you an idea of what's happening and what's definite
so far.
you can see there's loads of slots yet to be filled so if you think you
have something to offer, email me and tell me what you'd like to do - either
submit a programme (the subject is up to you) or get involved in the technical
end of things).
provisionally there are already presenters for the breakfast and lunchtime
shows but i am looking for a few more. if you think you've got what it takes
to manage a live show like this, let me know.
the culture crawl will be a live review-type programme but stuff will need
to be pre-recorded. it's very easy to do so it's a good idea for those of
you who are stupmed for other ideas but still want to get involved.
the evening show will be specifically dedicated to current affairs and events
and is a chance for you journos to strut your stuff. if you are able to
manage a debate objectively or if you're particularly good at interviewing,
i want to hear from you asap. also a good idea for those who want to cover
a topic but are daunted by doing a full show on it.
i'm also looking for short pieces that can be used as fill-ins. if you've
got a short humerous sketch, that's ideal.
some of you have discussed ideas for shows with me already. i want ye to
come to me within the next week and give me a rough outline of what ye'll
be covering, if it's to be live or pre-recorded, how many shows you want
to make from the subject matter and whether they'll be one hour or half
an hour in length . from there i can slot you into the timetable.
for you techies, i want to do up a rota of producers. see what suits and
let me know.
keep an eye on the website (http://www.mediaproductionsociety.tk) cos i
hope to post up information on it this week.
as always, any questions email me or any other members of the committee
(details on web site).
time to get going on it. and yes i do know it's rag week. what's your point,
man?
aideen.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Over rag week, the MPS will be active in a number of key areas. If you would
like to help out and have a laugh filming such wonders as the bungee jumping
and the One World "I'm a student. Get me out of here!" then drop us an email
pronto.
Secondly, each week from now until the end of semester 2, we will be showing
a short film prior to the Film Soc. screenings in T101. If you would like
your video to be included in this, email one of the station crew, and be
prepared to submit a VHS tape to us at least 1 week prior to viewing date.
We are also going to put finished video pieces up on the website for download
or streaming. If you are interested in your work being available this way,
please supply us with a mini-dv copy of your work soon.
Thirdly, be aware of competition submission dates, for the MAMA awards deadline
is the 29th of this month. Check out the RTE website for details.
be aware that The Smedias Awards deadline is on the 14th April usually,
details haven't been finalised,We have the budget to cover all your entries,
but get these to us sooner rather than later as rushing finishing off your
programmes towards the end of term just makes for an unpleasant experience.
AS YOU MAY HAVE HEARD IN THE RUMOUR MILL, there have been some major problems
with NTL and DCUtv being shown on the link channel. NTL are in a heap of
financial difficulty and are in too much of a mess to run the link channel
at the moment, so we have had to start looking at alternatives. We have
some brilliant bigger and better ideas planned - Looks like we'll be organising
a fantastic societies week.
WE ARE HAVING A MEETING ON THE 24TH OF FEBRUARY THE TUESDAY AFTER RAG WEEK
TO FILL YOU IN ON ALL THE DETAILS OF SUCH DEVELOPMENTS.
Also, the purpose of this meeting is to organise teams for programmes to
be made. We have a number of shows in
the pipeline:
*Bring in the Euro sketch
*Documentary about the farce that is Campus Residences Ltd.
*Walking down the street reality tv
*Busking and streetlife in Ireland
*Irish language in Dublin programme
*Live blind-date show
*Filming bands in the studio
If you want to be involved in making a programme to be screened in front
of over 300 people, including important figures from the industry, come
along to the meeting and choose your project. Or, if you have your own project
but need people to help you, email us and we'll see what we can do.
AND FINALLY, sorry for the massive email, but I also wanted to announce
our acquisition of a fantastic radio mic, which allows us filming possibilities
and sound recording that we only dreamed of before. Think about different
ways that we can use this equipment. We're out testing it this Friday, so
hopefully we'll have some results to show you at the meeting.
Until then, HAVE A GREAT RAG WEEK!
