This should be of great interest to all you inspiring communications andmultimedia
students who are frustrated at our lack of equipment here in DCU. As sean
started out as a freelancer himself, he is used to working on minimum equipment
and has agreed to direct his attention to what DCU can offer. He was technical
officer at RTE for many years and is very familiar with what is necessary
for the TV industry today. Now he works as head of production resources
at RTE so get in there, get your face recognised, ask loads of questions
and you may get a bit of experience at a later stage?!

Hey,
We are having some scriptwriting workshops on the 24th and 29th.
The numbers for these are limited. If you are interested please get back
to me and tell me what date you wanna go. Bear in mind that the 24th is
duing reading week.
Let me know if you have any experience or particular interest in scriptwriting.
The guy giving the workshop has a really good bio and has just had one of
his shorts funded and filmed by the Irish filmboard.

Hey just to remind you all about our two guest speakers tonight and tomorrow
Tyler, the D.O.P. from the very well known Canadian film 'Hooligans' (to
be released early April) and many other film productions will be speaking
in CG12 (Henry Grattan) at 7 o clock. The floor will be open to any questions
any of you may have with regards his experience within the film industry.
He's a sound guy so looks to be a great talk!
And tomorrow in the TV studio at 6.30, we have Sean Farrell, head of production
resources in RTE coming in to speak to us about the technical side of productions,
to show us a bit about our own equipment here in DCU, and anything else
anyone wants covered!! But places are limited so get your names to me asap.

Hey!!
DCU FM is officially off air now til next year, so on behalf of all of MPS
I want to say a special thanks to everyone who helped out and got involved.
Your support was much appreciated. It was a great week, hope you had fun,
and the experience will stand to you!
Webcasting each Wednesday from 12-4 will continue from our website so I'll
be in touch about shows and producing etc.
We'll be having a WRAP UP PARTY in the NEW BAR on TUESDAY from 8.30, so
come along and there'll be a DJ, food etc and a few little fun awards for
the best/funniest shows!!

two events for you -
On Monday next, that's the 14th March we have a guest speaker who has agreeed
to come in and give us a little chat about the film industry. Tyler Dinwoodie
is the Director of Photography on the new Irish/Canadian movie soon to be
released 'Hooligans.' He is an editor within the American industry and has
also worked on many canadian commercials. So anyone interested in what he
has to teach us is welcome to turn up just before half 7 on Monday in the
Henry Grattan building - CG 12.
Secondly, Sean Farrell, Head of Production Resources with RTE TV has agreed
to come in on Tuesday 15th March to speak about the technical aspect of
production. He tends to look at some of our equipment and relate to what
is possible and what is not. He will touch on subjects such as editing,
packages and programmes, camera work and other technical issues related
to TV productions. This talk will be held in the TV Studio on the first
floor of the Henry Grattan building at half 6. Due to the room's small capacity
please email me directly to confirm your place on Tuesday.

As you all probably know at this stage, MPS are filming a piece on student
life in DCU.We're been comisioned to do it by the marketing department so
it has to be kinda professional!! We are filming the "cribs" section showing
the HUB on the 21st and 22nd of March, during reading week.
We need a presenter for the shoot, so we are holding auditions next wed
at 2pm in clubs and socs office, upstairs in the Hub. We'll just need to
hear you talk to camera for a couple of mins, it will be really informal.
Could you let us know if you intend to audition so we'll know how many people

We are also looking for a full crew- runners( no experience necessary, experienced
camera people, sound people, anyone with experience using dolly and tracks.

the whole MPS comittee.
Just to let you know, we are also holding a DCU FM wrap-up pary on tues
at 8.30 in New bar. We'll have a DJ, a few nibbles and will be announcing
various winners of categories such as best title, funniest statement of
the week, best "disaster" etc. Hope to see ye all there to celebrate such
as sucessful week.

The categories and entry requirements are as follows :
Best Website - Submit the web address.
Best Video documentary Production - Submit a VHS tape no longer than 1 hour
of footage.( if you need help converting your piece to VHS, contact niamh.mulcahy2(a)mail.dcu.ie)
Best Creative Video Production-Submit a VHS tape no longer than 1 hour of
footage.( if you need help converting your piece to VHS, contact niamh.mulcahy2(a)mail.dcu.ie)
Best Live to tape Radio Production - Submit a CD no longer than 1 hour of
content.
Best pre-recorded Radio Production-Submit a CD no longer than 1 hour of
content.
Best Script - Submit a script of any kind on word doc.
Best News Writer - Submit a collection of 3 articles on word doc.or three
pieces recorded for radio.
Best Features Writer - Submit a collection of 3 articles on word doc.
Best Sports Writer - Submit a collection of 3 articles on word doc.
Best Photographer - Submit a collection of photographs, no more than 10.
Best Poster Campaign - Submit the complete poster campaign.

Video ands Radio entries should email to arrange a time for the collection

The closing date for entries is Monday 21st of March.

A friend of mine, that I met through Filmbase, is currently producing a
short film for TG4 and is looking for volunteers interested in working as
runners on set.
This is a really good opportunity to be on set for a professional short
film production and an excellent way to learn more about the industry and
professional protocols.

Hey,
the hybrid awards are back again. This year they will be taking place on
the 31st of MArch. We are building on last years success and have included
new categories.
For those who are not familiar with hybrid, it is an awards show. Our own
little oscars if you like. We invite professional in to judge the categories.
Last year this included George Hook, and our presenter was Aengus Mc Anally.
We have the whole hub booked out for the night so this will be a huge event.
Our closing date for entries is 21st March.
The categories are:
* Best Pre-Recorded Radio Piece. ( Submitted on CD)
*Best Live to tape radio piece. ( Submitted on CD)
*Best Video Documentary Piece.( we will accept any format)
