Those entering video and radio pieces should contact me to organise a collection
time.
Its a great opportunity to get feedback on your work and meet professionals
from the industry. All nominees will be treated to an invitation only wine
reception before the ceremony and there will be a bar extension to celebrate
afterwards. Last years awards were really enjoyable and its shaping up to
be an even bigger and better night this year with Angus Mc Anally back as
our presenter.

HYBRID AWARDS 2005: March 31st.
The MEDIA PRODUCTION SOCIETY are proud to announce that the annual Hybrid
Awards ceremony will take place in the Venue on Thursday night, March, 31st.
The Hybrid Awards offers DCU students a chance to gain recognition and acknowledgement
of the extra-curricular work they do in the media be it either inside or
outside DCU. Students get a chance to enter their projects into the Hybrid
Award, where the nominations will be judged by media professionals in each
of the eleven categories.
The categories and entry requirements are as follows :
Best Website - Submit the web address.
Best Creative Video Production- Submit a VHS tape no longer than 1 hour
of footage
Best Video Documentary Production - Submit a VHS tape no longer than 1 hour
of footage.
Best Pre-recorded Radio Production - Submit a CD no longer than 1 hour of
content.
Best Live to Tape Radio Production- - Submit a CD no longer than 1 hour
of content.
Best Script - Submit a script of any kind on word doc.
Best News Writer - Submit a collection of 3 articles on word doc. Or three
pieces recorded for radio
Best News Features Writer - Submit a collection of 3 articles on word doc.
Best Arts Features Writer- Submit a collection of 3 articles on word doc
Best Sports Writer - Submit a collection of 3 articles on word doc.
Best Photo Journalist- Submit a collection of photographs, no more than
10.
Best Photographer- Submit a collection of photographs, no more than 10.
Best Poster Campaign - Submit the complete poster campaign.
Entries for all categories except best video and radio production should
be emailed to sinead.stimpfig2(a)mail.dcu.ie
Entries for best video and radio production (and photography categories,
if to big to send) should email to arrange collection of videos and CD's.
The Due date for entries is Monday the 21st of March at 12 noon. Entertainment
details of the night itself to follow!!

Scriptwriting Workshops.
I have only about a dozen places left for the scriptwriting workshops. These
will take place from 7 till 9 on either the 24th or the 29th. I have emailed
those who have secured their places so if you have not heard from me and
want to get involved email me asap and specify what day you wanna go.
Showcase
Our largest screening will take place this tuesday in the Sugarclub at 9.
It would be really great if people could come down to support. WE will be
showing programmes made this year, last year and class projects. We also
have lecturers and people from the industry coming.
There is gonna be a techno dj playing afterwards so it should be a good
night.
I'll send around the list of programmes we are showng when I know for def.

Hey everyone,
Anyone who have registered personal entries for the Smedias can you let
me know so we can cover the cost of your entries and so we can make the
final submissions for you.
We also have 6 entries available for any of you that missed the registration
deadline in both Radio and Video and still want to enter. However, depending
on demand for these places it will be decided on merit.
This is vital that it is done immediately as the closing date for getting
your entries in is Monday. I will be available at the radio studio from
twelve o'clock on Friday to collect entries. Don't forget to check that
you have your entry in the right format, check this on the website.

Hey,
Still loads of places left for Sean farrell's talk tonight in the TV studio.
This should be of great interest to all you inspiring communications andmultimedia
students who are frustrated at our lack of equipment here in DCU. As sean
started out as a freelancer himself, he is used to working on minimum equipment
and has agreed to direct his attention to what DCU can offer. He was technical
officer at RTE for many years and is very familiar with what is necessary
for the TV industry today. Now he works as head of production resources
at RTE so get in there, get your face recognised, ask loads of questions
and you may get a bit of experience at a later stage?!

Just to let you know theres a Journalism/Media career talk tonight in the
Business School Q120 from 7pm. Should be worth a look, Taragh Loughrey Grant
from FM104, also people from Irish TImes, RTE etc.
DCU FM Wrap up Party tonight in the New Bar at 8.30, just to finish up last
week properly with a few drinks!

Hey,
We are having some scriptwriting workshops on the 24th and 29th.
The numbers for these are limited. If you are interested please get back
to me and tell me what date you wanna go. Bear in mind that the 24th is
duing reading week.
Let me know if you have any experience or particular interest in scriptwriting.
The guy giving the workshop has a really good bio and has just had one of
his shorts funded and filmed by the Irish filmboard.

Hey just to remind you all about our two guest speakers tonight and tomorrow
Tyler, the D.O.P. from the very well known Canadian film 'Hooligans' (to
be released early April) and many other film productions will be speaking
in CG12 (Henry Grattan) at 7 o clock. The floor will be open to any questions
any of you may have with regards his experience within the film industry.
He's a sound guy so looks to be a great talk!
And tomorrow in the TV studio at 6.30, we have Sean Farrell, head of production
resources in RTE coming in to speak to us about the technical side of productions,
to show us a bit about our own equipment here in DCU, and anything else
anyone wants covered!! But places are limited so get your names to me asap.
