Hi All!
I am up to the gills in course work (thank you Messrs Horgan, J. and McGuinness, D. et al) but I thought I might fire out a few ideas into the ether that is cyberspace (are You listening Lorraine?).
There was a very well publicized scandal about a doctor in Drogheda who removed wombs from women without consent. The first monetary award was given to a Kathy Quilty from Wales who has lived in Drogheda most of her life. She had given birth to a son who suffers from cerebral palsy. The doctor removed her womb. Tragic case and I am sure we are all familiar with it and the subsequent revelations about said "doctor".
Shortly after her award, Kathy's boyfriend murdered her ex-boyfriend outside her apartment, and attempted to kill her also.
Kathy's story has been inside and outside every newspaper in the land.
I have met Kathy (accidentally, didn't know who she was at first; we live in same "block") on several occasions, during each time of which she was barely coherent.
Anyway, her pronouncement at the time of receiving the reward was that it will be used to ease her son's life
In this current time Fathers' Rights seem to be an up and coming cause celebre. Bob Geldof has also come out in support of the issue. I was pleasantly surprised when I found myself talking to the father of Kathy Quilty's child. His story has rarely been enquired and on the occasions it has, he has refused. However, he has agreed to give DCU an interview. A scoop for DCU?
Anyway, my (public) phone number is: 087 96 96 757.
Gavin.
