Hi all, Sorry we forgot to mention that the internal league is cancelled for this week due to the 35's trophy being played. Also, the indoor football will not be going ahead for the same reason. It will recommence as normal next week. OLD FIRM SICKENER STUNS CELTS RANGERS....4 (Johansson 19, Albertz (pen) 45, Amoruso 48, Amato 66) CELTIC....2 (Berkovic 21, 42) No excuses - Celtic were outclassed and outfought by a team better in every department. For the thousands of loyal supporters who endured this depressing derby defeat, it was difficult not to turn away in disgust, as the niggling worry that our Old Firm rivals are a sizeable step ahead was emphatically confirmed. However, while Celtic's inferior quality was deeply disappointing, their lack of heart was positively unforgivable. Bhoys' fans have had to put up with a great deal of mediocrity over the last 20 years, so it says something that no-one appeared capable of recalling a more lacklustre Ibrox performance. Make no mistake, this was no glorious defeat. It was embarrassing, and now Hoops fans face two weeks of non-stop taunts and jibes before their team have a chance to redeem themselves. And redeem themselves they must, before the league race, once again, becomes a game of catch-up. The performance of Eyal Berkovic was perhaps the one plus point the Celtic faithful could take from this match, with the Israeli easily the Bhoys' most dangerous player. With only six minutes on the clock, the record signing could have given Celtic the perfect start, but his fierce 20-yard shot fizzed just over the bar. However, just two minutes later, Rangers fired a warning shot across the bows, when Jonatan Johansson outpaced Alan Stubbs and smashed a vicious shot off the underside of the bar. Nevertheless, this opening half-hour saw Celtic's play their best football of the afternoon, and one particularly impressive passing move nearly brought them the opener. After slick one-touch play from Berkovic and Lambert, the ball was played out to Jackie McNamara, whose tantalising cross was headed towards goal by Ian Wright, but Stefan Klos saved well. However, just as things were beginning to look positive for Celts, an error from Jonathan Gould handed Rangers the lead. Gould appeared to have the situation under control, as he collected Gabriel Amato's near-post flick on, but he fumbled the ball straight to Jonatan Johansson, who gleefully tapped home from four yards. It was a sickening blow but, to Celtic's credit, they hit back almost immediately. Eyal Berkovic burst down the right flank and played a clever one-two with Mark Viduka, before coolly passing the ball into the corner of the net from an acute angle. It was a great goal, and at that stage there were signs that Celtic were intent on claiming all three points. They did have to survive a brief Rangers onslaught, as first Lorenzo Amoruso's 30-yard free kick cracked off the outside of the post, and then Jonathan Gould had to make amends for his gaffe by pulling off a point-blank save from Claudio Reyna. However, the signs were good when, with three minutes to go until half-time, Mark Viduka intercepted Lorenzo Amoruso's botched clearance, muscled his way through the Rangers defence, and set up Eyal Berkovic, who poked the ball past Klos from 12 yards. The delirium among the Celtic supporters was to be short-lived, though, as deep into first half injury time, Rangers equalised in controversial fashion. Paul Lambert was adjudged to have brought down Jorg Albertz inside the box, although television replays appeared to show the German taking a tumble BEFORE contact was made. Lambert certainly came off the worst and, minus a few teeth, he had to be rushed to hospital with a suspected broken jaw. Albertz, on the other hand, recovered sufficiently to stroke the penalty past Gould, and turn the match in Rangers' favour. Within three minutes of the restart, they were 3-2 up, when Lorenzo Amoruso's free kick cannoned off Olivier Tebily in the Celtic wall and spun past the helpless Gould. Dodgy decisions and bad luck - this was Ibrox all right. However, with 42 minutes to save the match, it was still game on, and the Celtic fans were in no mood to concede the three points. Their hopes were shattered after 66 minutes, though, when Gabriel Amato burst through the static Bhoys' defence, rounded Gould and coolly slotted home.
