It's been an eventful and exciting week for Fotosoc with our first ever Photography Week! We'd like to thank YOU - all of our dedicated members for your help and enthusiasm throughout the week. It's time for us to tone down on the action a little bit now, but don't worry, we'll still have lots of great events and workshops. More to come on that later. I'm forwarding you all an email from DCU MPS about the Hybrid Awards - there are lots of exciting opportunities in there for photographers, so try it out! And finally a message from Eimear: "photos will be in clubs and socs til tuesday, on the desk where the phone is... after that they will have to contact me!!!!" Hi All, Just to remind you that fotosoc in association with debatesoc are hosting a special Photography Week debate this Thursday 10th March on the theme of "The ethics of Photojournalism". It takes place at 18.30 in The Glass Room, upstairs in The Hub. It will be followed by a Cheese and Wine reception closing Photography Week and an awards presentation to the winners of the Scavenger Hunt and the overall Exhibition. Hey everyone, Just a reminder that our Scavenger Hunt is on tomorrow (Wednesday) at 3pm. Meet us at the Helix for the fun and frolics! If you want to bring your own digital camera that'd be great, if you don't have one, we'll supply you with one. Come everyone, and bring your friends! You don't have to be a member to take part and it's all free. We have a camera workshop at 2pm in J118 (the R&D building) which will involve both the technical aspects of using the camera as well as photo composition. And also, at 5pm, there is a Photoshop workshop in C100. Everyone is also welcome to both of those. Thanks to everyone who came to our launch, it was a great success. Don't forget to check out our exhibition in the Glass Room! Kate

Hey everyone, I know this is like the hundredth mail this week but be prepared for more, it is almost PHOTOGRAPHY WEEK!!!!!! (Don't worry, I'll calm down email-wise after that.) Barry McCall,Ireland's most renowned fashion & adverising photographer is lauching DCU's first ever Photography Week on Monday 7th March at 7pm in the Glass Room (upstairs in the hub - follow the arrows!) One of the most sought after photographers in Ireland and abroad for his style and creativity Barry has worked with some of the top Irish fashion desginers and his advertising work for such companies as Diet Coke, Miller, Ballygowan and Guinness feature all over the country. A presentation of his work will be followed by a cheese and WINE (yes, wine!) reception in the Glass Room and admission is free. Kate (sec)

[fotosoc] Photography Week!!

Hello Fotosocers! Exciting stuff happening next week - Photography Week!! Our timetable looks like this so far: Monday - Launch at 7pm with cheese and wine reception, speakers and more. Here beginners get given a disposable camera to take photos around campus during the week and a chance to win prizes! Tuesday - Trip to the Irish Museum of Modern Art Wednesday - Technical and Composition workshop with Des and Dave at 2pm, an action-packed Scavenger Hunt at 3pm (with more fabulous prizes) and a PhotoShop workshop with Donal at 5pm! Thursday - it all starts to wind down, with our prize-giving ceremony with speaker Alan Betson, an award-winning photographer from the Irish Times. Also on Thursday, we are teaming up with Debate Soc to hold a debate with the motion "The Photograph should be taken whatever the cost" investigating the ethics behind photography. If anyone is interested in arguing for this motion, please let me know! Even if you've never debated before, it should be quite informal and great fun! Please keep submitting the photos, the exhibition will be up all around college all week! T-Shirts will soon be forthcoming, I'll let you know soon. This is a great opportunity to become more involved in FotoSoc and we hope you'll all make the most of it. Keep an eye our for posters and timetables! This is also Music Week, so share the love!!
