Today your Redbrick email was converted from mailspool format to
Maildir format.
What do you have to do?
=======================
- If you had mailer configuration files (.muttrc or .pinerc):
These files have been moved to /home/oldmail/USERNAME. Sample guide
files named .muttrc.suggested and .pinerc.suggested have been left in
their place. Using these files, create new working .muttrc or .pinerc
configuration files.
(See: http://www.redbrick.dcu.ie/help/the_big_move/mailers/)
- If you used .procmailrc mail filtering:
Your .procmailrc file has been moved to /home/oldmail/USERNAME. A
guide file can be found at .procmailrc.suggested. Make sure there are
no mistakes in your .procmailrc, mistakes can result in
losing new mail.
(See: http://www.redbrick.dcu.ie/help/the_big_move/procmail/)
- If you forward all your Redbrick mail to another account (e.g.
DCU account) or use Redbrick system defaults for all your mail:
No action is required.
What does this change mean?
===========================
- You can now find your mail at ~/Maildir instead of ~/.mailspool.
- Your mail is now reliable over NFS. (Sharing amoung several machines)
- Your mail is now compatible with IMAP mail clients (Evolution,
Outlook Express, Pine).
- Your mail is now compatible with the upcoming Redbrick Webmail system.
If you have any questions about your configuration don't hesitate to
contact helpdesk(a)redbrick.dcu.ie .
New Server
==========
Finally, we ask everyone to test out our new server which should become
the primary Redbrick login machine in the next few weeks.
To log in simply:
Change the hostname field in PuTTy to 'deathray.redbrick.dcu.ie'.
or
Type 'ssh deathray' from your regular Redbrick session.
If you find any issues with the new server, mail a description of the
problem to deathray-issues(a)lists.redbrick.dcu.ie .
Regards,
Redbrick Admin Team.
