Hi, Lotta here. Just an update on a few things we've got coming up! On Friday 7th October CSD have announced downtime from 18.00 - 00.00. This may continue until early Saturday morning. All DCU computing services, including RedBrick, will be affected. The admins have also decided to update our servers at this time to cause minimal disruption. This means that you will have to start a new screen when service is restored. Friday 7th October - http://www.toys4bigboys.ie/ So RedBrick is going down for 6 hours on this day. Whatever will you do?! Don't despair! Robot Rumble, quad bikes, the latest gadgets for your home and - if those don't take your fancy- there's also a fashion show(?!) If you're interested in going email the committee (committee(a)redbrick.dcu.ie) Meet in the Hub at 1pm on Friday afternoon. We will get the bus from there to the RDS. Tickets 8 euros for members / 20 for associates Thursday 13th October - Finland Meeting I will be sending out an email to all those going with further details. Friday 14th October - Pub trip! http://www.woolshedbaa.com/ 8pm onwards. The Woolshed, Parnell St. (Right next to UGC Cinema) We have reserved an area here and there will be some finger food available. Beer is available in pitchers and they have some of the soundest bar staff in Dublin. The Christmas event - All will be revealed soon... And don't forget, we've also got weekly Helpdesk talks, which Train will keep you up to date on. An advanced Linux workshop is being run on Tuesday November 4th. That's all from me for now. Hey all, Just a quick update on our affairs, * Linux Workshop * Helpdesk Exam * Clubs & Socs Ball Tickets * Drupal Event Linux Workshop Following on from last week's session we are going to hold a more advanced Linux workshop, if you want any topics covered please e-mail helpdesk(a)redbrick.dcu.ie. This will be held next week on Wednesday the 5th. Helpdesk Exam We are also having a Helpdesk exam next Wednesday October 5th at 1pm. Venue TBC. Two helpdesks positions are open on the committee, and passing the exam is a requirement of running for this position. good luck to all who sit the exam. Hi everyone, Just a quick mail to let you know what's going on this week. * Introduction To Linux Workshop * Socsball Tickets * Account Renewals == Introduction To Linux Workshop == The second of our workshops this year will focus on a basic introduction to linux, to help you get familiar with some basic commands & editing files. It'll be on in LG26 (in the CA building) at 6pm. There will also be some refreshments afterwards \o/ == Socsball Tickets == As you're probably aware by now the annual DCU Clubs & Socities Ball will be held on November 4th in City West. Tickets cost €55 including dinner, bus transfers from/to DCU. RedBrick has a small number of tickets to sell to our members. These will be distributed on a first come, first served basis. To book a ticket login to redbrick and run socsball. == Account Renewals == If you haven't paid your membership yet this year you will have received a reminder last night. You can renew on our website by visiting http://redbrick.dcu.ie/help/joining. If you have any queries about your account please contact accounts(a)redbrick.dcu.ie. Accounts which have not been renewed by the end of this month will be disabled. RedBrick regrets to announce that Gavin & Sean have resigned from the position of Education Officer because of other commitments. Welcome mail and a few other things

Hi folks, This is just a quick mail to you all, telling you about some of our upcoming events. First of all though, I'd like to welcome you to RedBrick (or welcome back for quite a few of you). I suppose a brief description of RedBrick and its services is in order. Redbrick is Irelands largest networking society, both online and socially, we hold many events throughout the year ranging from our freshers ball to trips to the cinema. We provide our members with many different services, our mainstay being IRC/Chat and our boards. However we also offer free web and image hosting, tutorials on how to use RedBrick to the best of its potential as well as other various topics of computing. Anyway, on to events and stuff: -C&S days -New committee members -Introduction to RedBrick this Tuesday -Paintballing -Your suggestions ==Clubs and Societys days== RedBrick signed up a total of 224 users over Tuesday & Wednesday. Some of you are new, some of you are not. I'd like to thank everyone who turned up to show their support. Lots of free slushie was had by all (this may be a lie, as it took so long for the stuff to freeze >.>). ==New committee members== RedBrick held an EGM last Wednesday, electing a new Chair as well as a new first year representative. So a warm welcome to Emma as first year rep and a welcome back to Kat as chair, who was previously our events officer. ==Introduction to RedBrick== This Tuesday we're holding a talk in LG26 (that's the computing building) at 6pm. Here we'll show you the basics of getting started using RedBrick (if you haven't already), so come along and get comfortable with using RedBrick. However, if you're looking to get a headstart by yourself there are plenty of helpful guides on getting started at http://wiki.redbrick.dcu.ie/mw/Helpdesk ==Paintballing & Finland trips== RedBrick are going paintballing in Limerick with netsocs from all around Ireland on the 25th of October, signups have already started to take place, but don't worry if you act quickly enough you can come too. The total cost is €40 with a €20 deposit. The cost includes accommodation plus a bus to and from Limerick. There is also one last spot free for our trip to Finland that will take place during the inter-semester break. The total cost of the trip is estimated at around €150 euro. We'll need a €10 deposit as well as your name as it appears on your passport, DOB, email and phone number. If you're interested in either of these, contact the committee by emailing committee(a)redbrick.dcu.ie ==Your suggestions== As a society, we're constantly looking to improve, to do this we need your input as to how you'd like the society to be run. If you have an event you would like us to try hold or have any suggestion at all with regards to improving the society, please e-mail the committee, as before at committee(a)redbrick.dcu.ie Well, that's all for now. This will be my last mail as secretary. I can go back to people not knowing what my actual name is. I was just filling in while dano (our real sec) was filling in as chair. EGM, Freshers Event and... FINLAND TRIP \o/

Hi, A quick update on Finland from your ents officer! As you know signups are taking place at the EGM (seminar room at 4pm tomorrow where first year rep and chair will be elected. PIZZA! \o/ ). Places will be limited to just 20 people, and a €10 deposit will be required tomorrow to secure your place. Estimated total cost is between €120 and €150. Proposed dates at the moment are 4th/2/2009 - 8th/2/2009. A draft itinerary has been drawn up and at the moment it looks something like this: Wednesdsay 4/2/2009 Meet at airport at 5am Take Ryanair flight to Tampere Get a bus to Helsinki Check in at hotel and chill for a bit Go for food and drinks Zzzz Thursday 5/2/2009 Breakfast Visit Finnish Technology museum (http://www.tekniikanmuseo.fi/) Walk around Helsinki where you'll have a chance to go shopping or just wander around (I'll provide maps with shopping areas, areas of interests, our hotel etc. marked on them so we don't lose anyone!) Go for dinner and drinks Friday 6/2/2009 Breakfast Visit Finnish Science Museum for a physics exhibition where you can try out a Formula One simulator (http://www.heureka.fi/portal/englanti/exhibitions/speed/) Free time to wander around Helsinki Go to watch an ice show (http://www.helsinki.fi/en/index/matkailu/liikunta/railwaysquareiceparkopen.…) Saturday 7/2/2009 To be Decided Sunday 8/2/2009 Go back to Tampere to catch our flight. Live music, freshers and a raffle. And the Old Bar is back. What more could ya want? Upcoming RedBrick events and C&S days

Hi folks, Hopefully it's been a good first week back to college (for those of you who are still coming here). Just mailing you all to let you know what events we have planned and also to remind you to rejoin at Clubs and Socs day on the 7th/8th. If you're unavailable to come in personally you can also see http://www.redbrick.dcu.ie/help/joining/ for an alternative option. Anyway, on to the events: -EGM -Paintballing -Finland As I'm sure you're all well aware, we need to elect a new chair for RedBrick as well as a first year representative, the EGM is to be held on the Wednesday of the C&S days (that's the 8th) at 4pm in the Seminar room, upstairs in the hub. So come along and nomiate/vote for whomever you wish to be our new chair and first year rep. There will also be pizza, delicious pizza. Probably lots of it. Intersocs paintballing is still set to be held on the 25th of October in Combat Zone, Limerick. I've asked terran and there are still some places left if you act quick enough (within the next week or so) if you want to go and this is the first time you're hearing about it. Deposit of 20 euro is still required. And finally, RedBrick are planning a trip to Finland during the inter-semester break, visting the birthplace of Linux.
