Hey Everyone, It's coming up to Halloween :D Everyone excited?? I know I am :D == InstallFeast == So on the 27th of October, this tuesday, in LG25 at 5pm the famous installfeast is on. Basically you bring your laptops, we'll help you install Linux on them and you get free Pizza :D You don't even have to bring your laptop. You can just come, watch and get pizza. So come along :D == Ubuntu dinner == If anyone is not really doing anything for Halloween on the 31st of October there's a dinner, followed by drinks to celebrate the release of Karmic Koala. It'll be on from 7pm till late. == EGM == Just a reminder about our next EGM which will be on Wednesday the 4th of November, at 2.30pm in T101. == Webchat == Check out http://webchat.redbrick.dcu.ie You don't need to download anything to get it working. All you need to do is type in your username and password and you're in. EGM || Tutorial || Hoodie Competition || Usernames

Hi everyone, I'm back again. Here to tell you what's happening for week four: == EGM == So we're having another EGM on Wednesday the 4th of November, at 2.30pm in T101. This is to elect a new Admin for our committee. There's an Admin test on this Tuesday at 7pm. You must sit and pass this test to be eligible to run for admin position. == Tutorial == We're running a helpdesk workshop on how to use various aspects of our system, including how to program on redbrick and screen. Screen is more commonly known as "the thing that lets you stay logged into chat". It's a bit tricky to get the hang of at first and it can alot more than just that so come along and we'll show you how it's done. We'll also show you how to avail of the programming services we have on redbrick which is far easier than having to install the language libraries on your own machine. We'll be heading over to the bar after that (should be finished up ~6pm) for a few pints (yeay alcohol :D) So even if you don't come to the tutorial do come along to the bar for a chat and a free pint**! == Hoodie Competition == So like I said before there's going to be a hoodie competition. I told you's I'd tell you more about it when I knew more. Well what do you know I know more now and here it is :) Hoodie design contest: So basically you can use the current logo if you want or create your own. Deadline: 2 weeks. Prize : A free hoodie, with your logo. How awesome will that be :)? == Usernames == Ever wonder why somepne pick there username? Why did you choose your username? Admin Resignation || Second EGM

Hello everyone, Apologies for yet another announce email. We regret to inform you that David (Coconut) has decided to resign from his position as admin. This means that we will be holding another EGM on Wednesday 4th of November. Full details will be announced soon. If you would like to run for this position you must pass an admin test. If you wish to sit this test please email admins(a)redbrick.dcu.ie by Friday. The job description taken from our constitution : " The System Administrators shall be held ultimately responsible for the administration, security, and maintenance of the society's computer systems. They shall be responsible for the notification of the committee in regard to any breaches of the rules and regulations of the system. They are hereby authorised to take any administrative action necessary to discharge their duties, so long as such actions are constitutional. Such actions are open to review by the committee. Hey everyone :) It's me, Emma, and for some of you that don't know, I'm the Secretary for Redbrick this year :D So here's the low down for this week. == Redball == So I hope everyone had a good time at the RedBall and no one got lost in a ditch somewhere on the way home :P Or was sooo drunk they ended up like one of these guys -> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZmDWltBziM == Raffle == Congratulations to Redgiant who won the raffle for survey participants. He won the amazing prize, Granny Racing. :D Let's just say a lot of people are jealous about that :) Well done again. == EGM == Just a reminder about our EGM on the 14th of October, this Wednesday, in CG12, the Henry Graton building, at 2.30pm. Want to run for first year rep??? We're looking for a first year who wants to be part of the committee and to mainly just sit there and look pretty :D You think you got what it takes??? We'll be heading for Pints in nubar afterwards. So don't miss it :D == Kubuntu trouble? == Kunbuntu giving you trouble? Need help with the disc we gave out? Welcome to all our new members and welcome back to all our less than new members! GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS == Getting Started == Hope you enjoyed the sweets at our table. If you need any help during the year with RedBrick services most of the answers can be found on wiki.redbrick.dcu.ie, but if you can't find what you're looking for on there just email helpdesk(a)redbrick.dcu.ie == EGM and First Year Rep election == Want to join our committee? We're holding elections for our first year representative on Wednesday 14th of October at 2.30pm in CG12. That's in the Henry Grattan building. You can nominate yourself or someone else. The first year rep's responsibility is to promote the interests of freshers to the rest of the RedBrick committee and let us know what it is freshers want us to do. They will also have to attend weekly committee meetings and help out in general. THERE WILL BE FREE PIZZA AT THE EGM. \o/ == Freshers' Ball == As most of you have probably heard, the RedBrick Freshers' Ball is being held TONIGHT (Thursday), upstairs in Matt Weldon's (The Slipper), which is opposite the Ballymun Road entrance to DCU. The event starts at 8pm and will include €3 drinks and featuring gw on jukebox; send your music requests to gw(a)redbrick.dcu.ie or coconut(a)redbrick.dcu.ie Don't forget that the theme is red, and we'll have prizes for best dressed, most unusual and most interesting outfits. Admission is FREE for RedBrick members, but if you're not a member you can sign up at the door. == Events == If you have any suggestions for any events, talks or workshops for the next year, please don't hesitate to contact the committee with your ideas. Drop a line to admins(a)redbrick.dcu.ie with your current username and your desired username and we can sort it out for you; remember there's an 8 character limit though. == Wimax Trial == Last year we announced that Redbrick had been asked by ISS (formerly CSD) to participate in a trial of a new wimax system on campus, Due to the unavailability of the USB dongles before the summer break the trial never got started, but they have now arrived and we are once again collecting names of students interested in participating in the trial. This will involve reporting on your experience using the system to ISS using Moodle, in a way similar to the new e-mail system trial we ran last year. If your are interested in participating then send an email with your name, DCU e-mail address and semester time address to wimax(a)redbrick.dcu.ie. Your address will be used in conjunction with Google maps to determine the maximum range of the system. Please send this information by Friday Lunchtime at the latest, if the information is forwarded to ISS by this Friday we hope to be issuing the dongles Friday week. Again, welcome!
