Hi folks, It's that time of the week again and here is what's happening with RedBrick. * C&S Ball tickets. * Downtime this weekend (the one that didn't happen last weekend). * Monday drinks and pool, Nubar. * Quazar/Bowling Monday week (8th November). C&S Ball Tickets We got our grubby little paws on some C&S Ball tickets, so if you would like one just send us an e-mail. The Ball takes place on Wednesday, November 17th, In Crowne Plaza Hotel. The tickets are 40 euro and include a 3 course meal. The number of tickets available is limitted, so it's first mail-first served. Downtime As you may have noticed the downtime last weekend didn't happen. Instead the estates are cutting power to the whole Hub this weekend. Due to this electricity outage we'll be down from Saturday evening until Wednesday evening. There is another power outage scheduled for the whole Hub the following weekend so we would recommend you copy off RedBrick any of your files you may need over that time. Sorry for the inconvenience. Monday Drinks and Pool in the Nubar For our social this week we will be having a few drinks, accompanied by pool playing in the Nubar from 6pm. Quazar/Bowling Monday week we are organising our ever popular Quazar and Bowling trip. The trip costs 10 euro and the places are limited. If you'd like to come, please e-mail the committee with 'Bowling' as the title of your e-mail. That about wraps it up for the week. Hi all, We're sending out the comming week's announce early, so here goes :) * Downtime, Friday 22nd - Monday 25th * Hoodies/Zippies * Renewals * Screen and games on RedBrick workshop, Tuesday, 6pm, LG26 * Admin Training, Thursday, 6pm, LG26 * Intergenerational Learning Project Downtime, Friday 22nd - Monday 25th Due to ongoing redevelopment works, the power to the Hub and thus our server room will be cut this weekend. We'll be back as soon as possible, and apologise for the inconvenience. Hoodies/Zippies Ever wanted your very own custom RedBrick hoodie or zippie (hoodie with a zip down the middle)? Well, now you can get one. We will be sending out the order at the end of week 5, so we'll be taking orders on campus all next week. The price is 25 euros for either a zippie or a hoodie, so just find us next week in the Hub, on Wednesday from 11-12 and 2-3 or Thursday from 3-4. Alternatively you can pay by paypal or by bank transfer and let us know whether or not you'd like your username on it and what size and style (hoodie or zippie) you'd like. If you're not sure how to renew, just check out our site :) Screen and games tutorial, Tuesday, 6pm, LG26 Helpdesk will be holding a tutorial on some of the fun things you can do with RedBrick, so come along and learn about the magic that let's you stay logged into IRC Admin Training, Thursday, 6pm, LG26 Our popular admin training series of workshops takes of on Thursday, 28th, with Unix systems administration. For anyone interested in the nitty and gritty of computers and operating systems, this is a great talk to attend. Intergenerationa Learning project We've been asked to mention a volunteer project in tutoring older people in using computers. This is done in a fairly relaxed, informal atmosphere and is a great experience for anyone interested in teaching and education. Monday 18th October - The Social Network. Meet in the Hub at 6pm (all subsidised tickets have been allocated) Tuesday 19th October - Installfest. 6pm, LG26. Bring your laptop. Back it up beforehand. Week 5 - Admin Training starts ==Linux Installfest== We will be holding our annual Linux Installfest this Tuesday at 6pm in LG26 (Computing Building), and we will providing copies of Ubuntu on the day. Bring your laptop, but please back up all your data beforehand. Refreshments will be provided. ==Hoodies== These will cost 25 euros each. You have the option of getting your username on the sleeve for no additional cost. We will be taking orders for these until the end of week 5. We will be taking orders in the Hub from 5pm - 6pm tomorrow (Monday). You will also be able to place an order at any of our events. If these times don't suit you, you can email committee(a)redbrick.dcu.ie to arrange to meet a committee member. We have 20 tickets available at the discounted price of 4.50 each. We will be meeting in the Hub at 6pm. We will head into town, grab some food in Eddie Rockets, Parnell Street then head to the cinema. You can also meet us outside the cinema at 7.30 pm if you'd prefer. Hello everyone! Hope you're all settling in nicely. Dates for your diary : Week 3: Monday 11th October 4.30pm - Admin test. Meet in main School of Computing lobby Monday 11th October 6pm - Dinner in the Nubar. Meet in Hub at 6 Wednesday 13th October 2pm - EGM. QG21(Business Building) Week 4 (full details next week): Monday 18th October - Cinema trip to see Social Network as well as Eddie Rockets Tuesday 19th October - Linux Installfest == EGM == Like voting for things and eating pizza? Our EGM this Wednesday (13th October) at 2pm in QG21! Available positions are: First Year Rep Events Officer Treasurer Admin If you wish to go for the admin position you must attend the admin test on Monday 11th October. Meet in the main School of Computing lobby at 4.30pm. ==Monday Social Night== We are kicking off our weekly social nights with dinner in the Nubar. Meet in the Hub at 6pm. You can also pop in later. Check the MOTD, our Facebook page and next week's announce email for full details. ==Dublin Hacks and Hackers Hack Day== Lastly, some of you may have heard of the Dublin Hacks and Hackers Hack Day, to be held on 16th of November. In their own words "Armed with their laptops and WIFI, journalists and developers will be put into teams of around four to develop their ideas, with the aim of finishing final projects that can be published and shared publicly. Each team will then present their project to the whole group. Overall winners will receive a prize at the end of the day." Redbrick has got a limited number of tickets for this event, so if you'd like to come along as partof the Redbrick team, email the committee (committee(a)redbrick.dcu.ie) with your full name and class/company. Server Outage

Hey guys, Due to an aircon malfunction in the server room we have taken some non essential servers offline in order to counteract the heat. We've taken Daniel and Data (VM's and VM firewall respectively) offlne as well as Carbon. We are currently trying to get the aircon back so that we can restore these services asap. We'll keep you posted if we need to bring anything else down, and when the downed services are coming back up. Week 2 RedBrick Announce

Hi all, So we're all back to full time education (or jobs) and we have a busy week ahead of us. * 5th/6th October - Clubs and Socs day in the Hub. Swing by for goodies and membership renewal. * 7th October, 5pm - Introduction to RedBrick talk in LG25 * 7th October, 7pm - Fresher's Ball upstairs in the Slipper * 13th October, time TBC - EGM Clubs and Socs Day The Clubs and Socs Day takes place this Tuesday and Wednesday (5th and 6th October) so don't forget to look for us in the Hub and renew your membership. You will know us by the red bricks ;) As is usual, we expect to have a hectic day, so if anyone would like to volunteer to man the ship (or in this case the table) we'd be very happy to take you on board. Just e-mail the committee with your name and times available. Introduction to RedBrick Our anual Introduction to RedBrick talk will take place on Thursday, 7th October at 5pm in LG25. If you're feeling a bit rusty about RedBrick feel free to pop by and catch up on our current list of services and how to get the most out of your membership. Fresher's Ball This year for the second time, we will hold our alternative Fresher's Ball. It takes place on Thursday, after the talk, from 7pm upstairs in the Slipper (Matt Wheldon's). In the fine tradition established last year, our theme for the evening is red, so come wearing red clothes and let your inner geek be heard. Light refreshments shall be provided, so renew your membership for free access to these shenanigans. EGM Just a reminder, the EGM will take place on 13th October, more details to follow next week.
