Hi folks, Hope you all had an entertaining Tech Week and are up and ready for this week's Rag Week. Here's what we're up to for it. * Boolette Tournament, Wednesday, 6pm, meet at the Hub. * Adopt a Brick. * Intergenerational Learning Project == Boolette Tournament == We will be holding a Boolette tournament this Wednesday. Boolette is a card game revolving around Boolean logic, rules of which can be found at http://boolette.alamzy.com/ We will be meeting at the Hub at 6pm and heading to our venue from there. == Adopt a Brick == During the week we will be operating on the campus running our adopt a brick scheme. To adopt your very own, adorable red brick, just find us around the Hub. We will have a wide selections of bricks looking for a new home so you are sure to find the one for you. All proceeds from the bricks go to Rag Week charities. == Intergenerational Learning Project == Since it's Rag Week, why not get involved with some voluntary work? The Intergenerational Learning Project is geared towards helping older (retired) people get to grips with computers and technology and are currently looking for volunteers for one-to-one tuition. The classes run on Saturdays from 10am-1pm in QG27, until 16th April. Hi folks, So IT is here, IT has arrived, welcome to our annual Techweek. This is a week most likely to be exciting for any and every brickie, so here's the summary of some of the highlights as well as some other dates to bookmark. For the full list of events, see http://techweek.dcu.ie/ * Launch party (with Strange Things table quiz), Monday, NuBar 7pm. * Talks and Karaoke trip (with Gamessoc at 6pm), Tuesday. * Arduino, gaming, talks and movie, Wednesday. * Talks/presentations and tech anime (with AMS), Thursday. * Ragweek, week 4. * RedBrick's 15th Birthday Party, 24th March. == Launch Party & Strange Things Quiz == Techweek kicks off in NuBar from 7pm on Monday with the Strange Things quiz. Things to look forward to include our original Techweek cocktail courtesy of the ever creative John, the bar manager. Come around and dress nerdy, on this night of all it may well pay off. == Talks and Karaoke, Tuesday == Tuesday, during the day will be predominantly a talk day, with contributions from Model UN on Cyber Terrorism, DCUSU on Cyber Bullying and our very own Richard Dalton on Web Security. For more details on time and location, see the site. In the evening we shall be heading to Bonga for Karaoke with Gamessoc, to conclude the days work with more fun. == Arduinos, Gaming, Talks & Strange Things Movie == Wednesday will be seeing Jeffrey Roe giving a workshop on Arduino technology (if you would like to attend, please email the committee to account for the amount of materials needed.), Gamessoc's Retro Gaming, JournoSoc organised Mark Little Talk and finally Strange Thing's showing of Lawnmower Man. == Talks/Presentations & Anime == On Thursday we will be having a talk on 3D Modelling by Dave Larkan, as well as 'Lightning talks' from Engineering Soc. In the evening, Anime & Manga society will show some technology themed anime to celebrate the week of tech. == Ragweek, week 4 == Ragweek is coming, look busy. Things will be done, fun will be had and money shall be raised, stay tuned for more information. == RedBrick's 15th Birthday Party, 24th March == Hold onto your bricks folks, we have a date for the biggest RedBrick session of the year! The Birthday Party will be on the 24th of March, which is also the Ada Lovelace day (if anyone doesn't know who that is, Ada Lovelace is considered to be the very first programmer), and will be held in the Slipper. Time is yet to be confirmed, but bookmark this day, wherever you are, and at the very least keep a computer and an internet connection handy on the night :) That's that for week 3 and I shall hopefully see you at an event or two. Howdy all, Back from my day off so lets get cracking on what we're up to for week 2 :) * IRLCPC contest practice session - Tuesday, 6pm, LG25. * Admin Training - Wednesday, 6pm, LG25. * Techweek, week 3. * Train's resignation. == IRLCPC contest information/practice session == We will be holding a training and information session for the intervarsity coding contest, to be held on 26th of March in UCC, on Tuesday at 6-8pm in LG25. There will be Red Bull and snacks provided to fuel your coding genius so if you can, drop by. The session will involve working on practice problems, finding out more about the contest and a chance to form teams. If you can't attend the training session but would still like to participate in the contest, just let us know and we'll keep you posted. == Admin Training - Set up your own server == This week's admin training will take place on Wednesday at 6pm in LG25. Our very own Haus will take you through setting up an Ubuntu server with a number of services from scratch. In addition, we will be taking a look at some past admin exam papers, so come along :) == Techweek == This year's Techweek will be taking place in week 3. For those who don't know, this is a week dedicated to all things tech. A number of other societies are contributing events with the full schedule being available in the Events tab at http://techweek.dcu.ie . The timetable may be subject to revisions, so feel free to check back during the week. For anyone interested in attending the Arduino workshop, please email the committee, since places for this event are limitted due to hardware requirements. == Train's resignation == Lastly, we are sad to announce Train has resigned his admin position due to increasing workload in his course. We'd like to thank him for all the hard work he put into administering the servers and wish him all the best in the future. That about wraps it up for week 2 happenings in RedBrick land. Week 1 - Hoodies, Admin Training, Techweek, IRLCPC Contest!

Hey everyone! It's geekitys day off ;) So I'm filling in :D == Monday - Hoodie Collection & Welcome Back Drinks == Join us today, Monday, Nubar from 5:30pm - 7.30pm, welcoming everyone back after the Christmas break and, for some lucky members who ordered last semester, to collect your hoodie! So pop along to say hello and share some memories from the Christmas period! == Thursday Admin Training == This week's admin training will be held in LG25 at 7pm. The topic covered will be networking. The speaker is Cian Brennan(lil_cain). We'll be providing you with pizza to celebrate the start of semester 2. == Techweek 2011 == Golly gosh, do we have a treat for you. Week 3 this year is Techweek, we are extremely excited about this years Techweek. With the traditional Qzar trip as well as the brand spanking new events from societies never before involved - From a Karaoke trip to a Quiz, Retro Gaming to 3D Modelling! It's certain to be a campus-wide extravaganza! (And one not to be missed!) == IRLCPC Intervarsity Coding Contest == Last year RedBrick's very own Team Kenny won the first annual intervarsity programming contest held by ACM. The competition will be held in University College Cork on the 26th of March. We'll look after the entry fee and sort out the travel and accomodation. Night out in Cork afterwards to celebrate. We'll be starting practice sessions on Tuesday of Week 2. If you're interested in entering or would like further information email committee(a)redbrick.dcu.ie.
