Hey all we have some exciting things in store this week. ==Admin Training== ==Bowling and Q-Zar Trip== ==Downtime 2nd and 3rd November== ==Admin Training== Date: Tuesday 30th October 2012 Time: 6pm Venue: LG 25 The first session of admin training for this year is being held this coming Tuesday. This session will be an introduction to linux system administration. During this session the admin team will be teaching you the basics of linux systems including some simple shell commands, file manipulation using a shell, and linux file system heirarchy. ==Bowling and Q-Zar Trip== Our Annual Bowling and Q-Zar trip is this Wednesday the 31st. There are still a few places left so if you want to come along make sure to send us an email letting us know beforehand to secure your place on the trip. The cost is 4 euro per person which you can pay on the day. We have booked Bowling/Q-Zar in LeisurePlex in Coolock for 3pm so we will be meeting up in the common room (N109) at around 1:50/2:00 and will head from there at 2:15pm at the latest. We will be getting a 17a bus from stop 128 at the junction of Ballymun and Collin's Ave. If you want to meet us at the LeisurePlex in Coolock that's no problem. ==Downtime== There will be some scheduled downtime this coming Friday and Saturday the 2nd and 3rd of November in order for the admin team to perform updates and installsome new hardware. The systems will be coming down at after 3pm on the 2nd and will be back as soon as possible after the upgrades. During this time all redbrickservices will be unavailable and we would advise all our members to save and back up their files before this date. Hey everyone, it's a new week and we have a couple of things to fill you in on. ==New Committee Members== ==New Common Room Rules== ==Tuesday Pints== ==Bowling/Q-Zar Week Six== ==Downtime== ==New Committee Members== Firstly I'd like to welcome our new committee members that were elected at last week's EGM. Freddie Hayden (mercury7) is our new first year rep, and Gautam Wadhwa (gw) is the newest addition to our admin team, we look forward to working with them throughout the academic year ahead. ==New Common Room Rules== As some of you may be aware the common room was closed on Friday the 19th at 12pm following a common room committee meeting the previous day. This was in order to facilitate the reorganisation of the room and to prepare for the introduction of a new set of common room rules. These new rules will come into effect tomorrow Monday the 22nd of October and must be adhered to by all members. I have attached a copy of the new rules for reference however they will also be on display in the common room. ==Tuesday Pints== We will be heading over to the Nubar on Tuesday evening for some midweek pints. This will be a great opportunity to get together and catch up for our older members, and also a chance for new members or anyone who still hasn't gotten involved to meet other members in the society. For those of you who don't know any of us yet, you can spot us in the Redbrick hoodies. We will be there from 6pm onwards so pop down for pints and a chat. ==Bowling/Q-Zar Week Six== Just an update on the Bowling/Q-zar trip we're planning for week 6. We will be going to the leisure plex in Coolock and the price will be 4 euro per person. If you would like to book your place on the trip sooner rather than later, email committee(a)redbrick.dcu.ie with your details. ==Downtime== There will be some scheduled downtime on the 2nd and 3rd of November in order for the admin team to perform updates and install some new hardware. Hey everyone 'Week 4' is an important week in the redbrick calendar here's what's happening. ==EGM== ==Annual Installfest== ==Talk Requests== ==Quazar== ==Account Renewal== ==EGM== Date: Wednesday 17th October Time: 3pm Venue: QG22 Link: https://www.facebook.com/events/122366077913848/ We will be holding an EGM this week, the following topics are on the Agenda: First Year Representative Election. System Administrator Election. Rules and Regulations. A.O.B. If you plan on running for either of the positions available or want your say on any of the issues make sure to attend. There will be free pizza! ==Annual Installfest== Date: Thursday 18th October Time:6pm Venue: L101 (To be confirmed.) Redbrick will be hosting our annual Linux Installfest this week. Bring along your laptops and we will be showing you how to install a linux partition on your hard drive. For those of you that want to install a linux partition on your desktop PC at home, don't worry we will have Linux CD's to give out on the day. This will be a great opportunity for you to ask questions about Linux systems. We will be installing our own version of OpenSuse, called SuseBrick that has been tailored especially to help you get started using Redbrick services. You may also bring along any Linux distros yourself for your own installation, and ask for help at this event. It is recommended that those attending take a full backup of their files as although very unlikely it is possible to lose data during the installation. ==Talk Requests== Its that time of year again and we are organising all the talks and workshops for the year ahead. As always we want you to have your say and are open to suggestions. If you have any ideas about topics for talks you would like us to host during the year, let us know and we'll do our best to organise them. Feel free to let us know if there's a topic you'd like to give a talk on too! ==Quazar== We're planning a Bowling/Quazar trip for sometime during week six, watch this space for more information. Hey everyone, Apologies to those of you whom this doesn't concern. ==Common Room Card Collection == Date: Wednesday, 10th of October Time: 2pm Venue: N109 Link: http://www.facebook.com/events/376567515754780/ The time has come again for distribution of the common room access cards. We will be holding a "Tea and Biscuits" afternoon in the common room to give our members an opportunity to meet up and collect their cards. Don't worry if you cant make it on the day, if you're around campus and want to collect your card, pop up to the common room and if there is a member of committee there they'll be happy to give you your card. For members who received a card last year, please hand this back to us upon receiving your new card. For those of you who missed the intro to redbrick talk and want help with using our services, Wednesday will be a great opportunity for you to ask us questions and get involved. Hey guys! First of all I'd like to welcome all of our new members to Redbrick. We look forward to seeing you at our future events. There will be lots of things going on throughout the year so don't be afraid to get involved.! == Intro to Redbrick== == Redbrick and Gamessoc Freshers Ball== ==First year rep EGM== ==Account Renewal== ==Intro to Redbrick== Date: Thursday 4th of October Time:6pm Location: LG26 We will be holding our annual "Intro to Redbrick" talk tomorrow evening in LG26. It's a perfect opportunity to learn about everything that Redbrick has to offer. We'll be showing how to get started with logging in, accessing your storage space and giving you some other cool tips on how to use all the resources that we offer. ==Redbrick and Gamessoc Freshers Ball== Date: Thursday 4th of October Time:7pm Location: Downstairs in Matt Weldons (The Slipper) This is the first big event of the year on the Redbrick calendar. Our Freshers Ball will follow the "Intro to Redbrick" talk tomorrow evening. We plan to head straight over to the slipper from the talk, so if you wont be attending the talk we'll meet you over there, downstairs in the Slipper about 7pm. The Fresher's Ball gives the 18th Generation of new members a chance to get to know one another as well as getting to know some of our current members. This year sees Redbrick teaming up with Gamessoc for an even bigger party, so come along and enjoy some grand food, grand company and grand pints. ==First Year Rep EGM== We will be holding an EGM to elect a First Year Rep (and vote on some other issues) in Week 4, on Wednesday 17th of October at 3pm, the venue has yet to be confirmed.
