Week 2 Newsletter

Hello again everyone, we are truly back into the swing of things this week with the return of Hackerclub as well as our wednesday talks!

Just a reminder and a warning to those who use the common room, while it may be a communal area, that does not mean everything in the room is communal. The only thing that is communal is the room itself, not any food or items in it. Anyone seen using something that does not belong to them, or taking something that does not belong to them without prior notice of the owner will have their common room access revoked.

Our discord server is up and Running, so swing by and join the community!

Ghost Buses: Anomaly detection of transport data

Redbrick is back for the new semester! This week we have DCU's very own Dr Michael Scriney talking to us about ghost buses! Transport providers supply real time information streams to consumers concerning the status of their network. These streams generally manifest themselves as a measure of time indicating when a bus/train/luas etc.. arrives at a specific transportation point. However, there can be a disconnect between what the real-time system displays and the status of the network in the real-world. The purpose of this work is to analyse these streams using deep learning in order to build a classifier which can mark anomalies coming from the real-time systems in order to provide consumers with more information.
