Hi all, Are you excited? I'm excited. This weekend we're all off to Galway to eagerly hack awkward things together and have some craic while we're at it. If you're interested, see below. However, to make you fall in love with us even more, if that's possible, we've got some other really cool events organised for this week: +Go Get Go - Monday 5pm - LG25 +Helpdesk: Building a PC - Wednesday 3pm - LG25 +Competitive Programming Workshop - Thursday 5pm - LG25 ============================================================ Go Get Go +Date: Monday 01/03 +Time: 5pm +Location: LG25 +More info: https://www.facebook.com/events/606865196131456/ ============================================================ Late at night, we hear little admin Voy crying. "go get" he pleads. "go test; go fmt; go go gadget". Multi-threaded tears drip from his face, his strictly-typed desperation clear. He has been driven to madness by the fact the rest of us don't use Go. Come to LG25 on Monday to hear Voy preach about the Go programming language, and show us how to use it like the best of them. He'll be on hand to answer your most difficult questions, and to generally teach you a little bit about the wonderful world of Golang. ============================================================ Helpdesk: How to Build a PC +Date: Wednesday 02/03 +Time: 3pm +Location: LG25 +More info: https://www.facebook.com/events/1711450499067138/ ============================================================ It's 11.30pm, and your assignment is due in 30 minutes. Your computer freezes, unable to cope with you punching in your essay in Emacs, looking up references in Netscape, and streaming 12k hardpore corn at the same time. Your essay is late, because your PC is subpar. You need to build a PC. Helpdesk will save you. On Wednesday, Redbrick's finest will be on hand to show you the what and the why of building a PC; power considerations, part requirements, methodologies, and tricks of the trade. Whether you're putting together a bitcoin mining rig or a gaming PC, come along to hear from the masters at Helpdesk what's what in building your own personal PC computer. ============================================================ Competitive Programming Workshop +Date: Thursday 03/03 +Time: 5pm - 7pm +Location: LG25 +More info: <insert fb event here> ============================================================ Hark back to Techweek, and remember your favourite talk: "Competitive Programming = Money". This is where you make that happen. We'll focus less on the competitive and more on the programming, teaching you the things you need to know that you won't learn in class. We'll get hands-on with some problems, look at a few solutions, and drool over algorithms; just like any other Thursday evening. You won't need anything to take part other than some Python and a lust for money. If you attend, you might be better prepared for the charity programming competition in DCU Thursday week, of which there is more info here: http://mycode.doesnot.run/childline ============================================================ Inter-Computer Society Hackathon +Date: Friday 04/03 - Sunday 06/03 +Location: NUI Galway +More info: https://hackathon.netsoc.co/ ============================================================ The time has come! On Friday we're all going on a trip to the windy West for the Inter-Computer Society Hackathon, hosted by NUIG Compsoc. We hope to see you there! As noted before, Redbrick are organising transport and accommodation for anyone interested. We hope to keep the cost below 50 moneydollars, but we cant confirm the price until we have definite numbers.
