Hello everyone, We've just passed the half way point in the semester and are continuing with some great events this week! Just a note: We've finally gotten onto Snapchat! In this weeks announce: - Screen@Redbrick: DEFCON talks - Associate talks: Charlie Von Metzradt - Admin talk ============================== -Screen@Redbrick: DEFCON talks ============================== + When: Monday 3rd November at 6pm + Where: C165 + Description: DEF CON is one of the oldest continuously running hacker conventions around, and also one of the largest. On Monday we will be screening some of the talks from the convention, including "How to Weaponize Your Pets" and "Pwned by the Owner - What happens when you steal a hackers computer".These talks are both fascinating and very entertaining, so be sure to grab some friends and come along for a fun afternoon! And, as always, there will be pizza! ====================================== Associate talks: Charlie Von Metzradt ====================================== + When: Tuesday November 4th at 6pm + Where: C165 + Description: This week we have a very interesting talk planned! This weeks talk is going to be given by the esteemed Charlie Von Metzradt (aka phaxx) and is entitled: "Metrics, monitoring and data-driven engineering in a tiny startup". He will be talking about his experience as an entrepreneur, why he set up metricfire and why they and other companies see metrics as a business. He will also be discussing then how this approach benefits individual engineers. This promises to be a very interesting and informative talk! Be sure to come along! =========== Admin talks =========== + When: Wednesday November 5th at 3pm + Where: LG25 + Description: This week the admin team will be introducing you to the world of virtual machines. Firstly they'll cover how and why they are used, then the session will take a practical twist you'll all be given VMs and guided through some common commands to get you comfortable with using them. You might even have to fix some issues along the way! If you didn't attend the last admin training and will be attending this one please email the admins so they can get a VM set up for you in preparation for Wednesday. Well thats all till next week!
