The talk will centre around web development powered by Drupal. Drupal is an open source content management system (CMS) used to design websites with a focus on modularity, standards, collaboration, ease-of-use, and more. It is a cutting-edge platform that supports the latest technologies that the Web has to offer. This is set to be an insightful talk from one of DCU's own experienced lecturers, so be sure to attend and take note of any development advice or tips he has to offer. ==Admin Training== Date: Tuesday 4th of December Time: 6pm-7pm Venue: LG26 During this weeks session of admin training the admins will be talking you through the basics of securing a linux server. Some of the topics they will cover include, ensuring your operating system is updated and current, configuring firewalls and access policies and physical access. Making sure your server is secure is important for any would-be admin so pop along on Tuesday for a valuable lesson in server security. ==IRLCpC== Date: End of March 2013 Venue: UCC Website:http://acm.ucc.ie/irlcpc This year sees Redbrick members looking to represent the society and University at the annual Irish Collegiate Programming Contest. In 2011 a team of redbrick members took 3rd place. They were one of five teams who attended. In 2012 five teams also attended the contest. Competitors can use Python, C, C++, Java and C# to solve a series of problems a sample of which can be found at http://bit.ly/SEXcUG. Teams consist of 3 members, so grab two of your friends and get coding. If you don't know where to start, pop along to programming tutorials on Mondays where we will be holding training for programming competitions. ==Programming Tutorials***/ Programming Contest Training== Date: Monday 3rd of December. Time: 5pm Venue: LG26 This week's programming tutorial session is being held at the regular time in LG26. In addition to helping with programming tutorials we will be using these sessions to practice for upcoming programming competitions. Don't worry if you have no experience in programming competitions, we'll be starting from the basics and working our way up. We're hoping to get some feedback from those who have attended over the next while to see where we can improve. If all goes well we hope to get people in from industry to give talks and tutorials over the coming weeks. ***The tutors helping out at the tutorials are students and as such may not be able to answer all of your problems. Also it should be noted that they will not be able to give you the answers to any assignments/labs you have that you are being graded on. If you are having trouble with an assignment or lab we will try to help you understand the problem and how you should go about solving it rather than giving you the answer. If you have any questions regarding the tutorials, send an email to helpdesk@redbrick.dcu.ie . That's all for this week! Regards, Robert Devereux, Redbrick Secretary 2012/"13
