Maintenance, Downtime and Redbrick move.
Good Evening, As most of you are aware, half of the Hub is being demolished this summer to make way for a new student centre. The half that is being demolished houses the old bar and the Redbrick server room. As such the entire Redbrick environment and its servers will be going offline to accommodate a move of essential hardware to a temporary location. To this end; we will be performing required updates on the majority of services, this will most likely break services for periods during the upgrade. As updates are progressing we will be updating people via the #announce channel on IRC and twitter, we will endeavour to send an email for major upgrades. This is a huge move, it requires the rewriting of tools and methods, reconfiguration, recompilation and rebuild of services and migration to different servers. We have already started non-disruptive work (before the announced window of 13-06-2016 ) but as the deadline for the move comes closer you will see more services incur downtime. All services will be affected to some degree. This is why we are recommending that all users take a backup of their current projects and data. We will be asking for a fallback MX to spool mail while we migrate the servers physically. Please watch the #announce channel (it is a broadcast channel only, hence +m) Regards, Richard Walsh (koffee) Redbrick Admin p.s. I need the bag back.
