Afternoon Folks, Recently, I was informed by a company who RedBrick deal with for buying hardware that they had Cheap 2nd-hand laptops for sale, which they have re-furbished. They suggested that these machines might be suitable for members who don't want to pay an arm and a leg for their own laptop but just want something to "mess around" on, break, install, reinstall and basically butcher for their own education. The machines are quite old but are in full working order and have new working batteries in them. We've been quoted at 100Euro per laptop with no software/operating system OR 150Euro with windows 98 & Office 97 installed. However this price may change depending on the order size. The approximate specs for them are Pentium 1, 166 Mhz 2-3 Gb Harddrives 32-64 Mb Ram 2 * PCIMCA Slots NO C.D. Drives NO USB NO in-built Modem or Network Card However they've told us, that if there is enough interest in the machines, they will give redbrick a couple of Laptop Docking Stations which do have a CD-ROM. Ideally these machines could be used as your first unix machine. Something to start you off on. I've told my contact there that i'll get back to him by the end of the week so if anyone is interested for definite, you can mail me at cambo@redbrick.dcu.ie with the subject CHEAPCOMP and i'll add you to the shopping list. thanx alot.
