A chairde, Union Council will take place next Tuesday in XG21 at 6pm. At Tuesday's meeting we will have to elect our delegates to the Annual USI Congress. It costs us £225 per delegate if we pay after 31st March and £200 per delegate if we pay before 31st March. We are therefore, understandably anxious to sort everything out by the end of the month. Due to the expense of sending delegates I hope you all understand the importance of actually going to the Congress and attending the meetings down there if you say you will go. Anyone who puts themselves forward to go to Congress and subsequently pulls out without a very valid reason will be invoiced for £200 by the SU. Now for the positive stuff. The Congress is the most important event in the USI and the student representative calendar. The Congress will elect the members of the USI Officer Board for the following year, will review the USI constitution and will lay out the policies and priorities for the following year. It is being held in a very comfortable hotel and the craic will be mighty. It will be a fun and a productive week, the highlight of the year really. It is being held in the West County Hotel in Ennis. All delegates will have all their expenses paid for the week. Unfortunately the timing of Congress is not great for DCU students as it means that you will have to miss a full week of college. You go for the whole week or not at all. The delegation will decide how to vote on particular issues and you will have to vote that way. Anyone who breaks the DCU mandate or fails to attend important votes / meetings at congress will be sent home straight away at their own expense. The problem we usually have in DCU is in getting 12 people to go, not in choosing 12 people from 30 who want to go. The following people have expressed an interest in attending to date: * Dáibhí Ó Donnabháin * Seán O'Brien * Brian Creegan * Osgur Ó Ciardha * Seán Scally We are entitled to 10 delegates and 2 observers. There are still 7 places. Union Council will ratify the delegation. Please email me if you are interested in attending. Cheers, Dáibhí.
