[Antisellafield] planning to protest
Hello all, My name is Barry O'Donovan, I think I met most of you on the trip to Faslane. As you know, the new MOX facility at Sellafield is scheduled to open towards the end of this month. I am hoping to organise an action to protest against all nuclear activities at Sellafield. There are several legal actions pending at this time which are seeking injunctions to prevent this facility beginning operations. These actions include a High Court hearing tomorrow in London which is being brought by Greenpeace/Friends of the Earth, and a case being brought by the Irish government before the International Tribunal On The Law Of The Sea in Hamburg on Friday. It is quite likely that neither of these would be successful in preventing the plant beginning operations. Also, even if either of these actions are successful power generation, reprocessing and waste storage will continue at the Sellafield site. After talking about this with Clare Butler and Eoin O'Broin over the weekend in Dublin, I feel that a protest on this issue should involve as many people as possible. Therefore, alongside any direct action which would take place at or in the vicinity of the plant itself, a protest, or better still direct action should be arranged in this country to allow members of the public to express their anger and outrage at the selfish, short sighted policies of the British Government. For example, a nationwide Sunday afternoon (2 to 3 hours) demonstration/boycott of all British goods and stores during the run-up to Christmas. It has been suggested that the action at the plant could be done out of Dublin over the course of 1 long day (20-24 hours). Does anyone have any ideas, comments or suggestions on this. Would anybody be interested in getting involved in organisinga an action against Sellafield (including an action at the plant itself) to take place in the very near future. ciao, Barry phone: 087-2320437 -- _______________________________________________ Get your email from http://www.ireland.com
