New
Year Lecture
Billion Euro Explorer to Feature on Pat Kenny
With billions of euro worth of spacecraft currently scanning the Cosmos, the Director of Space Exploration in the European Space Agency, will deliver Astronomy Ireland's New Year Public Lecture on Monday, January 10th.
The following morning, he will feature on RTE's flagship show Today With Pat Kenny in a very special interview where he will explain how Ireland's space industry and our talented scientists and engineers help Europe be the world leaders in space exploration.
Professor David Southwood - the Director of Robotic Space Exploration - will speak to an audience in Trinity College Dublin and tell them how he manages and controls billions of euro worth of spacecraft, the same craft that take the amazing images we see all over the media today. He is the man responsible for exploration of space, and he's coming to Dublin to talk to us!
Professor Southwood has billions of euro worth of spacecraft scanning the Cosmos as we speak, with two to three thousand top scientists working for him.
Astronomers,
scientists, and engineers all over
Ireland create and develop spacecraft, instruments, and computer
software worth millions of euro that are used to bring Ireland and
Europe into space. Since joining the European Space Agency in 1980,
Ireland's space industry has grown to exceptional levels, allowing science and
technology graduates to be employed in this amazing sector, contributing to
Ireland's
economic growth.
This will also be the last lecture Professor Southwood will have in Ireland as the Director of Robotic Space Exploration, so it will be even more special! His talk will be absolutely fascinating, as he shows the most stunning images from space.
After the lecture
there will be a reception with food in The Lombard Inn. All our
welcome to attend and you will have the opportunity to chat with Professor
Southwood, other guests, and Astronomy Ireland staff and volunteers.
