Public Lecture to kick off Science Week
In a major public lecture for National Science Week (Nov. 7-14), Dr Andy Shearer will explain everything you wanted to know
about neutron stars but were afraid to ask! In his talk, entitled ‘Pulsars: Cosmic Clocks and Little Green
Men’, Dr Shearer will give a captivating talk to the
general public on these extremely bizarre objects, and how our understanding of
them has developed in over 40 years. Only five spinning neutron stars have ever
been seen in normal light, like cosmic lighthouses, and Dr Shearer's Irish team
of astronomers based NUI Galway found two of them - a remarkable Irish success
story at the cutting edge of world science!
The lecture takes place next Monday night, November 8, at 8pm, in the Fitzgerald
Building, Trinity College Dublin, for more information on this
lecture click HERE. After the lecture there will be a social reception in The Lombard. All
guests are welcome to attend and you will have the opportunity to chat
with Dr Andy Shearer, other guests, and Astronomy Ireland staff and volunteers.
A
DVD is
available to order online for anyone who cannot make the talk on the night.
