New Year Lecture
The Future of the European and Irish Space Industry
With billions of euro worth of spacecraft currently scanning the Cosmos, the Director of the European Space Agency will deliver Astronomy Ireland's New Year Public Lecture on January 10th, 2011.
Professor David Southwood - the Director of Robotic Space Exploration - will speak to an audience in Trinity College Dublin and tell them how he manages and controls billions of euro worth of spacecraft, the same craft that take the amazing images we see all over the media today.
Astronomers, scientists, and engineers all over Ireland create and develop spacecraft, instruments, and computer software worth millions of euro that are used to bring Ireland and Europe into space. Since joining the European Space Agency in 1980, Ireland's space industry has grown to exceptional levels, allowing science and technology graduates to be employed in this amazing sector, contributing to Ireland's economic growth.

This will also be the last lecture Professor Southwood will have in Ireland as the Director of Robotic Space Exploration, so it will be even more special!

The lecture takes place in the Ed Burke Theatre (Arts Building), Trinity College Dublin, on Monday, January 10th.
Tickets cost 7euro (5euro member’s rate) and there is a DVD available for anyone who cannot make it to the talk on the night.
