astronomy.

visit your school/group in Cork next week, or if you know of anyone who may
be interested, please call Joseph on (01) 847 0777 or email sec@astronomy.ie.
2. Irish Planets
around other Stars
Astronomy Ireland's Autumn Public Lecture will be given next
Monday, Sept 14, by Dr. Chris Watson of the Astrophysics Research Centre,
Queen's University Belfast, and made available on DVD for everyone in Ireland.
Dr. Watson will give a special talk about extrasolar bodies - planets
that orbit other stars - and Ireland's involvement in the detection, follow-up
research and characterisation of these exoplanets. This is a subject that
is fast becoming the most exciting and rapidly developing area of
astronomy.
The lecture takes place at 8pm on Monday, September 14, in the
Fitzgerald Building, Trinity College Dublin and a DVD is available for
anyone who can't make it. For more information click
HERE.
After the Lecture, we invite all of you
to join us in The Lombard at
9:30pm for a social reception where we will have an opportunity
to socialise with Dr. Watson and one another.
