1.   Celestial Fireworks Display to Peak Tonight - Nationwide Meteor Watch
Astronomy Ireland is urging everyone in Ireland to watch the skies this week and next for a National Meteor Watch and count the huge numbers of shooting stars they will see as the best meteor shower of the year reaches its peak activity. The Perseids have been known to produce sensational fireballs which can light up the entire night sky. Observers can expect to see hundreds meteors per hour tonight when it reaches its peak; meteors will be visible throughout the night, with the best viewing time after midnight.
 
To take part in Astronomy Ireland's Nationwide Meteor Watch, click here to find details and a map of the sky. Remember, no special equipment is needed, and this is a great way to get friends and family to do some astronomy with you! Simply count the number of meteors you see every 15 minutes (starting on the hour, or quarter past), and email your report along with your name and location to meteor@astronomy.ie.
 
The Perseid meteor shower will peak tonight, August 12th, but meteors will be seen for the days and weeks around this date, so we urge everyone to go out and watch on every clear night!
 
 
2.  Astronomy Ireland on TV and Radio
Astronomy Ireland's show on City Channel can now be viewed on www.astronomy.ie/tv. In this edition, David Moore talks about our recent public lecture "The Extreme Universe", what to see in the sky, and Ireland's biggest telescope festival, the Star-B-Q.

3.  Star-B-Q 2010
Astronomy Ireland's annual Star-B-Q takes place this year in Roundwood, Co. Wicklow, on Saturday, September 4th. The Star-B-Q is Ireland's biggest annual telescope event and offers unparalleled dark skies just 30 minutes outside of Dublin. This year, why not come along and experience the wonders of the universe through Ireland's most powerful telescopes with your family and friends?
 
We are delighted to announce that Dr Martin Hendry of the University of Glasgow will be this years keynote speaker, giving a talk entitled "Did We Really Land on the Moon?", where he will investigate a variety of moon landing hoax claims!
