1. Nationwide Watches
Tonight
Our Nationwide Moon
& Mars Watches takes place around the country at 8pm tonight
and we encourage everyone to go along to go to your nearest Watch
and view Mars, the Moon and Saturn through some of Ireland's largest
and most powerful telescopes, set up for you by our Branch
Coordinators. Please note events will go ahead regardless of
weather.
This is an entirely
free event and everyone is welcome to come along. Mars is a fascinating sight through a telescope, and tonight
it will be placed extremely close to the Moon.
Not only this, there will be a free draw
for everyone who attends the Watches around the country, where you will be in
with a chance to win a pair of 15 X 70 binoculars from our Shop.
There will be Watches in Carlow, Clare,
Cork, Dublin,
Louth, Sligo, and

2. Earth Hour
At 8:30pm this
Saturday, March 27, millions of people around the globe will turn their lights
off for one hour to mark Earth Hour 2010. Earth Hour, organised by WWF
(World Wildlife Fund) aims to raise awareness of the effects of Climate
Change and create a sustainable low carbon future for our planet. From an
astronomers perspective, Earth Hour highlights the ill effects of light
pollution around the world, and is the perfect opportunity to partake in an hour
of observing beneath unpolluted skies.

Week
- The Moon stands just 8degrees from
Mars tonight, March 25 - come along to our Moon and Mars Watch
to see this fascinating sight through our powerful telescopes!
- Saturn and the Moon
will be just 8degrees apart on March 29. Saturn is excellent for observing in the South all
month.
- There will be a Full Moon next Tuesday,
March 30.
