Volunteer Astronomy Ireland are looking for telescope volunteers to help out at this year's Star-B-Q - if you have a telescope (8 inch or larger) from our shop we would love to hear from you! We are also looking for general volunteers to help out with various tasks on the night, if you are interested call our offices on (01) 847 0777. 3. Public Lecture On Monday, September 13th, Professor Mike Edmunds will try to unlock the many mysteries of the Antikythera Mechanism, an ancient computer as used to follow the movement of the Moon and Sun through the Zodiac, as well as the planets that were known at the time, namely Jupiter and Mars, was chanced upon at the wreckage of a Roman vessel off the coast of the Greek island of Antikythera in 1901, and has ever since fascinated scientists and historians alike due to its complexity and accuracy. This talk takes place at 8pm on Monday, September 9th, in Trinity College Dublin.
