We love you guys...

The Time Of My Life

Well, I thought it'd be nice if we have a little recap of what we've achieved this year... put the kettle on again there...

Bagpacks - Having been left in a spot of bother with the Drama accounts last year, we'd like to give massive thanks to all those who helped out bagpacking during the summer. It was long and tedious and required us to travel the globe (Ireland being the globe in this situation) but had it not been for the work put in by our members, there wouldn't of been a Drama society this year. So thanks again to everybody!

Manhunt - A new initiative set up to capture eager first years into the Drama net. 4 committee members hid on campus and clues were given as to their where abouts. Two apologies to make on this one- Firstly- Liana was living up to her title of Fashionable late and anyone who searched the Helix before 2:30pm was very unlikely to find her there!!! Secondly- Apologies to Gary Boylan who, in fact, found me first and I told him that only first years were allowed play (which was technically a fib...) Much peace and love..

Clubs & Socs Day - Committee and active Drama heads went out dressed in ridiculous costumes to get people to join drama. (John held people at sword-point...) Massive thanks to Bui Bolg for the loan of the puppets!

EGM - This should stand for EPIC General Meeting- cus thats exactly what it was! Pauric Carroll was elected first year rep (dam that Caavan smile) and Susan Bourke was elected External Liaison Officer. I think I speak for the rest of the committee (and drama) when I say that these were two fantastic additions to the committee and this year wouldn't have been as much of a success without them.

Rocky Horror Picture Show - Not gonna lie to you... I was tipsy at the event. Possibly the funnest event Drama host, this year with did it bigger and better than before thanks to Shea McNelis lending us the use of three massive cinema screens! Thanks SU!

Lovely One Act Festival Show (LOAFS) - Well, this event was going to be a success from the title alone (which by the way, we spend the best part of an hour trying to work out) Entered with several amazing scripts (written by drama students) it was a massive success and hopefully will be an outlet for future drama script writers! The awards for the LOAFS were handed out on the Comedy Night... special thanks to all the judges!

Stars in Their Eyes - Some amazing performances here! Congratulations to all the acts! The judges kept saying how hard it was to decide a winner and that it was the best production of Stars in Their Eyes they'd seen DCU Drama do! The night was won by none other than Greg Fitzpatrick with 'Mustang Sally.' Bitchin...

Comedy Night - A new initiative set up this year with the help of Aislinn O'Loughlin who opened the night with a bit of stand up comedy. This was quickly followed by myself, Gary Furlong and Liana Ni Cleirigh performing songs from Avenue Q. Finally the night ended with a bit of improv "Whos line is it anyway?!" The night was a major success and hopefully it'll carry on over the years!

One Act Wonder Festival - The shows from the LOAFS were taken to the One Act Wonder Festival, these included "Alone", "If this is the afterlife then I want my old job back", "Nobody famous", "Come and Go" and "An improvised Murder Mystery with the exception of the script." Susan Bourke came back with Best Original Script and other shows received various 'joke' awards! Congratulations to everyone who went down and congratulations to Susan on coordinating the event as ELO.

West Side Story - A group of 20 drama heads headed to see this production lead by our first year rep (now chair) Pauric Carroll. (I'm going to honorably mention Aisling O'Flanagan for making sure Pauric and the other 18 people returned home alive.)

Back to Neverland - After the success of last years pantomime, we were determined to wow audiences with another fantastic show this year. The result was "Back to Neverland." Massive congratulations to Pauric Carroll and Aisling O'Flanagan for all their hard work in putting the show together. We raised €400 for St. Vincent de Paul Society and we also provided free entertainment to all the SVP kids (even if they were a pain in the...) All in all, the show was amazing and one of the main highlights of semester 1.

Nightmare before Christmas - A group of 20 drama heads went to see Liana's directorial debut of "Nightmare Before Christmas" in the Mill Theatre. The production was amazing and the hopefully some of those child actors and actresses will be showing up soon enough to join the ranks of DCU Drama!!!

Christmas Party - Held between Games Soc, Redbrick and ourselves in the Slipper the Christmas party was a memorable event. I think its fair to say everyone very much enjoyed the free mulled wine and mince pies and Santa was there again this year (thanks Bob) with more zany gifts for Drama heads.

Broadway Baby 2 - We came... we saw... we CAME BACK!!! I think it's fair to say that Broadway was EPIC! So many memories of this trip that I can't name them all... I think the snowing outside the Stardust Diner describes the magic of the trip the best. Special thanks to Joey for all his help in organizing this trip, couldn't of done it without you.

Three Days of Rain - After the massive success of "All my Sons," Fiona Colhoun came back to direct and star in the critically acclaimed "Three Days of Rain." Featuring memorable performances from Fiona, Roibeard O'Mhurchu and Eoin O'Callaghan (Winner of DADA's Best Actor) The show was produced by Joey Kavanagh and went on to receive a nomination in the ISDA's. Congratulations to everyone involved, it was an amazing production.

Drown Drama - DCU Drama never rests - hearing of the SU aims to raise €30000 for charity, committee members instantly sacrificed themselves for charity. Stocks were set up in the old bar beer gardens and committee members and active society members lined up to have wet sponges thrown at them in exchange for money. (Genius idea there...) Special mention to Susan Bourke as the only female volunteer to get soaked! Over €300 was raised from the event... which is 2% of the amount actually raised!!! Personally I think thats a massive achievement for 2 hours and congratulations to the committee who organized this event, special thanks to everyone who volunteered themselves to be soaked! =)

Table Quiz - We held our annual table quiz in the nuBar. For one of the first times in Drama history- the Table Quiz actually made a profit! But that wasn't its main function- the main thing was for some drama-heads to get together and have a good night!

Iago - Without a doubt - one of the funniest shows put on by DCU Drama this year. Having a ranged cast of veteran Drama heads (Brendan O'Rourke, Gary Furlong, John Cannon, Roibeard O'Mhurchu, Catherine Carr, LyndsAy McGregor) and introducing some fresh talent to the Drama scene, (Richard Ng, Lisa Donoghue and Megan O'Riordan) Iago was a massive success! Special thanks to Aislinnn O'Loughlin for providing the script and to techie Marko McGowran for 'dropping' everything to aid the production. By the way... to all the cast... "I'm" keeping the bunny...

Vagina Monologues - This show was amazing - who knew Vaginas had ANYTHING of interest to say?! (Awaits the feminist uproar) Seriously though- this show saw some amazing performances that had the audience laughing hysterically one minute then sitting in shock the next. Congratulations to Lyndsey Fay and Susan Doyle for producing this fantastic show. Also- an amazing €150 was raised for women's aid and the Vagina Monologues is probably one of the best events put on by DCU Drama this year...

Integrated dance and drama workshop - Professional drama instructor Ciaran Gray came to DCU early in Semester 2 to hold a drama workshop that included dance, acting and improvisation. It was an evening of fun and games, and the workshop is especially memorable for its exhilarating 'Shake Your Tailfeather' dance!

King Lear - Directed by Communications student Barry Bracken, King Lear was this year's foray into the world of Shakespeare. Performed in the Helix and featuring a very talented cast, the play was well received by its audiences, who praised the director's unusual interpretation of the space in the venue and the very innovative storm sequence in Act 3.

ISDA - This year the ISDA's were all about the fun, fun, fun, fun, fun... and organization. The organization goes to Susan Bourke as ELO- congrats again! This year it was held in Queen's University Belfast. Both shows sent up by Drama were nominated for an ISDA award ("Three Days of Rain- Best Costume & Make-up" and "Iago - Brendan O'Rourke - Best Supporting Actor") and everyone throughly enjoyed themselves.

Full Monty - This show was epic... can't really describe it anymore than that. Amazing performances from both cast and crew proven by the standing ovations ever night. Massive congratulations to Alan Keegan, Susan Doyle and Liana Ni Cleirigh for all their hard work in putting this show together. "Best Event Winner 06/07" sums up everything that needs to be said about this show. Absolutely brilliant from start to finish. Special thanks to the tech guys who 'accidentally' turned on the house lights in the final strip... =)

The Extraordinary Life and Unfortunate Death of Adam Ryan - Written by upcoming SU President Alan Flanagan, produced by drama legend Marko McGowran - Who Shot A.R.? was one of the most amazing shows drama had to offer this year! With murder, sex, drugs, prostitution and an ejaculatory dress, this show was spectacular. Amazing performances by all the cast - and a special mention to Nancy...

AGM - New committee was elected - congratulations to Pauric Carrol (Chair), Alan McHale (Vice-Chair), Susan Bourke (Sec), Jennifer Tweed (Tres), Susan Doyle (PRO), Megan O'Riordan (ELO), Fiona Carty (Sponsorship), Alan Keegan (Tech), Yvonne Keane (Training) and Conor Lynch (Webmaster) - and GOOD LUCK next year! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Suck to be you! *grins*

Variety show - Filled with songs, dirty dances, stripping Conor and a fantastic audience. The variety show was a fantastic event. Congratulations to Susan Bourke and Pauric for producing it and to John Cannon for helping out with the tech on the night. Also- thanks to the audience for singing along to 'Seasons of Love.' Much appreciated...

DADA's - This night was without a doubt the best night of Drama 06/07. Thank you to everyone for making it so special and I'm so sorry to be seeing so many of you leave next year... so, uh, don't go... stay... here... with... me? *cries* That aside... it was an epic night... Thanks everyone...

So... here we are... at the end...

Don't really know what to say - well... I do...

Firstly, I'm gonna miss spamming your accounts weekly - seriously, I enjoyed spamming you, it was FUN! *sinister smile*

Secondly, good luck to next years committee - you're going to be great - I have 100% confidence in your abilities and I can't wait to see how it goes.

Lastly on behalf of myself and the committee... we put everything into this year... we laughed, we fought, we cried... but not one of us regrets it. Thank you so much for being the most amazing group of people we've ever met. We wouldn't of worked as hard as we did, if it wasn't for the amazing people that make up this society. (That's you!) Thank you.

It was epic,
Steve
