Ahoy Gang, As you may know, DCU Drama headed to Cork last Thursday to represent DCU in the competition for Best Society in Ireland. Unfortunately, the Gods were not smiling upon us that night, and we came away empty-handed :( Mind you, that didn't stop us from taking over the dance floor and generally going bananas around the hotel in Cork! A great night was had by all ( and more than a few hangovers suffered...) Big Ups to Style Soc, who won Best Event in Ireland for their Fashion Show, and to St Vincent de Paul who won Most Improved Society. It was a fantastic night to be a DCU student! Now, onto business... Last week's AGM was one of the more tumultuous events of the DCU Drama year! The night started at 6pm with an address by Bob and then the entire committee gave an explanation of their duties and how they felt they fared in their efforts throughout the year. Most of us were happy with our progress! Following that, there were a few constitutional changes proposed, namely the creation of the committee positions of Training Officer and Set Manager. This led to a lively and heated debate with many members offering their two cents. The upshot of all that was that the position of Training Officer was created, while the debate over Set Manager was postponed until our EGM next October. Then the moment we all were waiting for....the election of the new committee! Unfortunately, the previous debate ate up a lot of time. The elections didn't start until about 7.20pm! There were three candidates for Chair - Stephen Grimes, John Cannon and Ashley Dooley Martyn. David Grimes was also nominated, but refused the nomination, citing a heavy academic workload for his upcoming final year. After they all gave a speech, the voting started. In a close race, Steve was elected chair for next year. Well done Steve! In the Vice-Chair race, Eoin O Callaghan ran against John and Ashley (who both re-ran, having lost out on the race for chair) ...and Eoin was elected! Well done Eoin! By the time we got to the election for Vice-Chair, it was rapidly approaching 8pm. More than a few people, due to prior engagements (and the unexpected over-run of time) began to get up and leave. Before the election for the position of secretary, DCU Drama lost quorum at the AGM, and Bob adjourned the meeting. Elections performed without quorum are not valid, so there was no point in continuing. Our AGM will be rescheduled for Monday of week 12, at the DADAs awards. The AGM will take place just before the awards ceremony, starting at about 7pm. Details as to location will be sent out as soon as we have confirmed a location :) Still thinking about running? Don't miss it! Bob -- Roibeard O Mhurcu # 54144094 CS2 Class Rep. DCU Drama, Chairman (Chairperson/Chairthing, y'know like, whatever). www.dcudrama.ie "Joey, you ever been in a cockpit before?
