Ahoy, I'm firing out this email in advance of the meeting on Monday night, so that you're all up to speed before you come to the meeting. It'll save me at least 15 mins of blathering... Right, here goes, The Variety Show: Provisional Running order - 1: Blackadder's Christmas Carol Sketch (I wanted to open with this one anyway, and Gary has to be elsewhere later on Tuesday night, so this suits everyone...) Needed: Table, 2 chairs, Christmas Card, Twig, Blackadder Theme music if possible. 2: Siobhan reads the 1st letter, can we get the "12 days" music for an intro ? 3: Hotel Soap Sketch (Half of the cast for this have dropped out for various reasons, not a problem as all we need are two tables, two chairs, with alternate lighting between the two. The newly appointed cast can read their lines off the script...) 4: Siobhan reads the 2nd letter. 5: Song from Bernard (don't know what he has planned, but whoever's got his number can you please ask him to be at the venue, 7pm monday for rehearsal & soundcheck ?) 6: Siobhan reads the 3rd letter. 7: Magic tricks - Again, can we get whoever is doing this to come to rehearsals at 7pm on Monday night. Especially so that they can tell us what props they need, if they need volunteers from the audience etc. 8: Siobhan reads the 4th letter. 9: The Manger Sketch (All we need here are Laura, Aislinn, a camera (which I'll provide) and a tripod (needs to be sourced). 10: Siobhan reads the 5th letter. 11: Song from Amanda Ryan. She has pledged to sing two songs, which is great, and will accompany herself on the guitar. 12: Siobhan reads the 6th letter. This will be a running gag throughout the show, with poor Siobhan getting increasingly frustrated. If we can get the theme music, by the second or third letter, the audience will start to cop on... By now, it's time for a 15 minute interval... SECOND HALF: 1: The night before Christmas, porn version. (We'll have two people reciting this, I've split it up into male and female roles...) 2: Siobhan reads the 7th letter. 3: Answering machine sketch. (Tricky technical bit: the gag is that the argument between the two leads is used as the ansaphone message at the end, to do it right, we need to record LIVE exactly what they say on stage. Can we get a tape recorder to use onstage as a prop ? Also: phone ringing sound effect) 4: Siobhan reads the 8th letter. 5: Another song from Bernard. 6: Siobhan reads the 9th letter. 7: Xmas X files Sketch. (Does anyone have the X Files theme music on CD ? ) 8: Siobhan reads the 10th letter. 9: Another song from Amanda. 10: Airline Pilots Sketch. (All we need here are two chairs and a bit of imagination....) 11: Siobhan, edging ever nearer to complete mental breakdown, reads the 11th letter. 12: Grand Finale: "To Hell with the knights" (We've got a big fuck-off bag of props, costumes etc, and we've done it before, so it should be smooth....) 13: Siobhan's lawyer reads the 12th and final letter. 14: Bask in rapturous applause, go get drunk. This should run to about two hours or thereabouts, I'd like a quickfire, Fast Show type of show: don't give the audience time to breathe. This, of course, is subject to change. I am putting it out there now, so that if you guys have any suggestions, please shout them out at the meeting. Do we need an MC ? If so, volunteers ?? There was a suggestion that we use the "devil directing traffic in hell" sketch, which is quite funny, it's just that I don't have a copy of it. I think Claire does. If you do, Claire, we'll find someone to do it (wanna do it yourself ?). I've put up posters in the H. Grattan Building (only place I could get into on Sunday) and have all the posters in my gaff. We can fire them up on Monday afternoon. The stormtroopers and I shall be at the Ballymun Rd Entrance at 8 Monday morning giving out flyers and will distrubute them to Larkfield (and the other blocks if possible) that afternoon. Unfortunately, the flyers are locked into the Clubs and Socs office (My card wouldn't swipe on saturday to let me in) so I'll have to get in there early Monday to get them. No sweat. As we say in Clare (y'know, out west, beyond the Pale), "Sure, it'll be grand..." [Drama-committee] Mondays Meeting

Hi All Considering that we've not had one meeting in 10 weeks with a full committee turn out and the fact that there are only 2 meetings left before the end of the semester, I feel that for once we need a 100% turn out to cover the biggest issues and if someone has to leave at any stage it should be for a very good reason. In my opinion, rushed meeting are a cause of some of the problems we're having at the minute. Hopefully this meeting won't take too long. Dave and Bob, I will arrange someone not on the committee or in the show to over see the rehersal tomorrow night so that you both can attend the full meeting and won't be under pressure to run off. I'll assume everyone will be there before 6 so we can start at 6 pm sharp Here's the agenda. I'd appreciate if you'd all take a look over the items before the meeting so that we can get through the list as quickly as possible. ------------------------------------------------------- Item 1 : Minutes from last meeting: what was actioned, completed and still to be completed. Item 2 : Dave and Bob's email Guys, I've gotten the ball rolling by responding to the lads email. I would like everyone to take 60 seconds on the points brought up and give their views. Any other issues that you feel need to be addressed should also be brought up here or mailed to me to be placed into AOB. I'll stick everything and everyones issues in a revised agenda. Item 3 : A report from everyone on the semister so far. Aims that you've met. Aims you haven't. Aims for second semister (+deadlines). Any help you need from others with particulars. Item 4 : Variety Show: Report from all involved Item 5 : Stage design workshop Item 6 : Promotion, Storm troopers, committee and working with other societies. Item 7 : St. Michael's house "You're a star" and Christmas party: Report and spot prizes for the raffell. Item 8 : Marketing and communications, In short they are giving us money to provide models for their new approach to secondary schools. I'll put the info in the members email tomorrow. Item 9 : Treasurer's standing order Committee opinion and a vote. Yvonne can you please mail it on to everyone again so its fresh in their minds. Good afternoon. I would like to commend this mail to your immediate attention and would hope that you take the time to read the important and urgent issues we need covered. I'll try to cut down the verbal masturbation that has been the staple of drama meetings recently. Firstly, drama has a few major problems this year, but I'm just a little sick of the nonconstructive negativity and doom attitude that has been prevalent. Drama needs enthusiasm and interest. A "professional" show or reputation runs a very distant second. Really, as amateurs, drama need merely infective enthusiasm, something which gets considerably damaged by in-bitching and comments like "drama is crap this year", which, all things considered, is a daft statement. Cut the crap, go with the flow and let's have some good craic! Secondly, on the approaching Monday night meeting, there should only be two items, and two items only, on the Agenda. Namely the variety show and MacBeth. In case you weren't aware, the variety show is on Tuesday night and needs promotion, sound, etc. Bob and I are technically directing, and half producing but we do need people. MacBeth is a big issue that has been skirted around stupidly. We are now confined to week 3 of Semester two and promotions and details must be fixed now. The cast are unhappy knowing nothing, as is the director and the lead has stated in black and white that week 3 is his only realistic week. We have a couple of suggestions for aforementioned Scottish play that must be brought up sooner rather than later. The lead actor is making a decision this week over whether he will do the damn show or not. Let's not have yet another cancelled event or frantic last minute scramble! There's more to drama than the bloody musical!!! Suggestion about meetings: DO NOT DROP A SUBJECT UNTIL A COURSE OF ACTION HAS BEEN DECIDED AND PEOPLE HAVE BEEN ACTIONED TO UNDERTAKE IT!! Who cares if the meetings last longer?! It'll save us alot of time in the longrun. Finally, it is not fair to lump multiple events into the laps of people near the last minute. As much fun as drama is, we need to sleep occasionally and sometimes go to lectures. Bob wants to get his degree in 3 years, not five! I kinda don't want to fail either. And with 3 exams next week, 2 assignments and a possible class test, It's not exactly hammer time. Right, go do. No bitching. FIX IT! OK, A few things about the upcoming Variety Show: Claire, techy expert: we will be needing someone to do sound & lighting. It doesnt have to be spectacular, but some lighting will be necessary. Can you get someone to set up on Monday night while we are rehearsing ? That way we can get the lights sorted out and get our actors familiar with them al at the same time. Also: We will be needing a few select sound effects: baby crying, phone ringing, intercom sound for airplane, x-files theme, medieval music (greensleeves ?) door slamming, answering machine beep, not much else. I know it's extremely short notice, but that's the way, aw-huh, aw-huh, I like it. (aw-huh, oh yeah...) For the ansaphone sketch, part of the gag is that an argument between the players ends up being used as the answering machine message. To do this right, we neeed to record the coments LIVE on stage and play it back as the asnsaphone message. Can we use / get a tape recorder as our onstage prop ? It can double up as the answering machine itself. Elaine: you promised me magicians. Do we have magicians ? If so can you contact them to be at the rehearsals monday, 7pm, the venue ? A running order will be organised on Monday night also. Everybody else, all I want you to do for the next week is TALK VERY LOUDLY about how fantastic this show will be as you walk around the college doing whatever it is you do. The more people hear about this, the more that will turn up... Oh, and hang posters wherever you can. They should be in the cubby hole by tomorrow, if all goes according to plan. I need replies about the posters, and who's going to do where. Don't assume somebody else is going to do it... Variety Show! the Venue 7pm, Tuesday 7th tickets: €5, €3 drama members Roll up for the DCU Drama variety show on Tuesday night , where you will be treated to the awesome spectacles and death-defying stunts of our motley crew of talented, eccentric youngsters. All the proceeds will be going to St. Michael's house, so make sure you seize this opportunity to get a good night's entertainment AND support a very worthy cause in the process! This show is definitely not to be missed! Set Design Workshop the Venue 7pm, Tuesday 14th For those of you who couldn't attend the last one, we will be running another set design workshop next Tuesday (14th) in the Venue. If you are handy with a hammer and nails, or just need a distraction from study, come along and gasp with wonder as we finally unveil the ancient secrets of set design. All welcome! Christmas Party! New Bar Wednesday 15th, after St. Michael's house Eurostar Well, the DCU Drama year just wouldnt be complete without the committee getting a bit merry and making total idiots of themselves at the official christmas party! So you are more than welcome to come along and divert attention elsewhere.... Make sure you come early before all the mulled wine and minced pies are gone!
