Hi there I got your email address from the DCU clubs and societies website and was wondering if you or some of your members would be interested in the attached part-time sports jobs with the Irish Tag Rugby Association this summer. In total, we will be hiring about 50 Venue Managers and 300 Referees around the country so there is lots of opportunity of getting involved – and earn some cash while staying fit. Attached are the two job specs - it would be great if you could forward the job details onto anyone you think may be interested and/or put the poster up on your club notice board. In Dublin, we are primarily looking for people to work in our venues based on the south side of the city…there are only a few northside venues: * Templeogue * Terenure * Blackrock * Ballinteer * Dundrum * Harold’s Cross * Stepaside * UCD * Santry * Rathmines * Lucan/Celbridge * Castleknock/Blanchardstown * Ballsbridge * Sandymount Regionally, we are looking for people in: · Cork · Galway · Limerick · Ennis · Athlone · Naas Working with ITRA is a great way for students get fantastic Sports Administration experience - and earn some decent pocket money at the same time. And as the work is in the evening time from 6 to 10pm, it can be combined with a full-time job. Hey guys, Here is the deal. We were screwed over. I have been in contact with the DLI for the rights to this show since the summer, to which we all received positive confirmation ie "Yes you can do it". Declan sent off for the rights on the 19 of January.Before he did he received confirmation once more that we could do the show. Thinking everything was grand, I asked The DLI to advertise on their website. A week late, we received these emails. First they claimed that they never got the cheque and we would need a license to perform. *Good afternoon Pauric* * * *Following your email last week, requesting our assistance in publicizing THE PILLOWMAN, we can find no record of a licence obtained for this production. * * * *As you will appreciate, this is a very serious issue, since no amateur production can proceed without a licence obtained from us at DLI. * * * *Please contact us immediately as failure to do so would mean that your play cannot be staged. * * * *Regards* * * *Valerie McGuile.* The further development mentioned in the emails, was that Martin McDonagh's Agency had got in contact and didnt want a production of The Pillowman in Dublin at this time. *Hello again Pauric* * * *I wonder if you could phone me –there has been a further development regarding your application ?* * * *Thanks* * * *Valerie.* Since we have no contract, from a legal stand point we have nothing. They are covered, we are in the wrong, we herefore can't do the show in the Helix without performance rights. If you want my opinion on the matter, DLI are idiots. They said that we could do it and then realized they were wrong.Maybe I should have secured the rights for the show before starting full production, but in order to apply for the rights, I needed a venue, so it was a catch 22 situation. The fact that I had been told that the rights were no problem, I hope you can understand, why we acted in what we though was the appropriate manner. However I do apolgise to the committee. However this leaves us in an awkward position, we have booked four nights at 600 euro and put down a deposit for 60 euro for the Space and have begun advertising. The best case scenario is that we get the rights. We have set ourselves a deadline of Friday in order to secure the rights for the show. I have contacted Martin McDonagh's agency by email to ask for leniency.In this regard we are basically flying on a wing and a prayer. We have contacted the Helix, and are hoping to arrange a sit down meeting with them to discuss our options. We might be able to get some money back. If not we could possible put some shows on. during that week. As you can imagine this came as shocking news for me personally. I think everyone knows how much time Declan, I and in particular the cast have invested into this show so far, but there is no point getting crying about it. As the cliche goes, "The show must go on." We are looking for loopholes, by rest assured "The Pillowman" will be performed by DCU Drama at some stage this year. Hi all, I am sending this to you as I hope it may be of interest to your society or to someone you know!I am guiding a tour this weekend to the Dingle Peninsula, the Ring of Kerry and Blarney Castle. The tour will leave DCU at 8am on Friday 6th and return to DCU at appox 5:30pm on Sunday 8th. The cost is 200 per person inlcu accommodation, free breakfast, transport and entrance fees. We have a trad Irish musician on our tour with us to play for us!... I am guiding a tour the following weekend to Limerick, Cliffs of Mother, Doolin and Galway city. The tour will leave DCU at 8am on Friday 13th and return to DCU at appox 5:30pm on Sunday 15th. The cost is 200 per person inlcu accommodation, free breakfast, transport and entrance fees. Please let your students, fellow students and friends know if you think it would suit them or if they would be interested! The More The Merrier!. All Welcome. Thank you. The tour will be lots of fun- culture agus craic!..with emphasis on the fun part!!! On Saturday March 7th we are going to a Working Irish Farm (see www.causey.ie) for one day! The ' Be Irish For A Day' tour is five fun filled hours of activities including for example ceili dancing, bog warriors, learning to play a traditional Irish bodhran playing and baking a traditional Irish soda cake! Bring old clothes and wellies if you can! The bus for the Causey family farm will leave DCU at 9am and return to DCU at appox 5:30pm. NB: Tablequiz. I would be interested in organising a table quiz at DCU for my students. My students are living on DCU campus as part of the DCU Boston University Dublin Internship programme.
