Hi Guys! Just got back from my meeting with Jamie which was very productive. Not only did we discuss alot about the amount of time and energy that'll need to go into this show - but we also discussed my list of selections. He was impressed by the shows on the list but for him - one stood out - The Full Monty. Now my immediate reaction was to say - "wait a second...what about the girls...its a bit of a guys show eh?". Well that was my misconception. In speaking to Jamie and reading up on the show verses the film - the female roles have all been strengthened in the transfer to the stage. Apparently the show's writer (Terrance McNally..) wanted the females to show more about their husbands than they did in the film. There is also an added female part called Jeanette (the guys strip coach) who has some of the wittiest and original lines in the play. Her number is meant to be one the show's best! I still was a bit skeptical however - and to this Jamie responded "I have no problem taking a red pen and making two of the female roles even bigger than they are already". Which I think is pretty fair. The only thing we need to do - is make sure that when people hear about this show - they KNOW that there are good female parts in it. I dont want to exclude anyone, and I dont believe that the show does that. But we need to let them know - so that there is an appeal for all our members - both sexes. The Pros of this show are pretty valueable. For starters its very well known. Secondly - its sexual and here at DCU - when sex is offered....its taken lol Plus, its a tiny bit contraversial which is the type of humour that comes across well with college audiences. In addition to this - the songs in the show are A1! The props are easy, the costumes are easy, the set is easy! The orchestration is as follows: Bass, Drums, Guitar (Electric and Acoustic), 2 Keyboards, Percussion, Reed 1 (Alto Sax, Clarinet, Tenor Sax, Flute, Soprano Sax), Reed 2 (Tenor Sax, Baritone Sax, Flute, Recorder, Clarinet), 2 Trombones, 2 Trumpets (dbl. Flugelhorn) - we can put that in the hands of our musical director and it can definitely work for us. I feel happy reccommending this suggestion and I know that it will be an absolute blast to produce! I hope you guys feel the same way! ...now bring on the opinions!
