FOR THE LOVE OF FIONNUALA.
Hey guys,Just thought I'd forward on part of an email that College View sent me today about the awards. The first part is one of the questions I was asked and below that is the response I sent. It's all ridiculous. If they try to ask you about the awards you are best off just ignoring them.5. I've been told by a source that you were looking to try to change an element of how the awards would be run - which would have given Drama an advantage, but was overruled. Can you explain this a bit more to me, and what would you say that you were looking to give Drama an advantage in the awards?
5. I have no idea who told you this. As I said before, the only element of the awards that I was trying to change was the introduction of a marking scheme, which I think everyone will agree would make the awards more transparent and ensure that the best societies won. I don't know how this would benefit Drama over other societies and I find it quite offensive that people are doubting my impartiality.
I would also like to make it clear that the Awards are meant to be fun for societies and should be treated as such. I find it extremely negative of the College View to try to make a story out of this, while ignoring all the brilliant achievements and recent intervarsity successes of DCU Societies. I think that this is symptomatic of the negative attitude employed by your newspaper. Perhaps your readers might enjoy hearing about the positive impact of societies on the university instead of the College View turning what is meant to be something which rewards society involvement into the latest "scandal".
