Hey,
Me, and Ed are currently working on the presentation. It will also serve as a warm up for the interview process.
We were hoping to practice it a few times with jenny on Tuesday and give the presentation to the Drama committee and
the Rent Production team that evening. We were also hoping to get Bob to train Ger ( and two others) to give us a mock interview afterward. This makes sense as bob was a judge in previous years??
I presume he has been. I think this would be ideal preparation for the interview.
John
Hiyo All,
There's a few bits that we need to talk about in advance of BICS next week.
1): How many people are going
DCU will pay for 3 people per event/soc/whatever - that's the latest that I heard. Those 3 will be John Cannon, Ed Leamy and Jenni Tweed, as they are our interview panel. (DIT are paying for me). Now, as many people as want to can go to BICS, but they'll have to pay 110 quid each for it - that includes dinner and a night's accommodation in the hotel. I'm looking into seeing if Drama can fully or partially fund extra people to go - so watch this space!
Eimear needs to know sooner rather than later who is going so that we can book rooms etc - so Conor, we need an answer on this fairly soon (in terms of funding) - I'd love to see a big crew going to represent RENT, so even if Drama can fund 25 or 50% per person, then I can mail the cast/crew lists and gauge interest. But this needs to happen SOON. Like, today.
2): Supplementary Stuff
Roysh, there's a lot of marks going at BICS for the supplementary stuff we send down in support of the application for Best Event. In fact, the application itself only counts for 25%. Eeeek.
The breakdown of marks is as follows:
25% Application Form
25% Portfolio/Supplementary Materials
25% Interview
25% Overall Impression
BTW, the application has been submitted, and can be viewed at: www.bics.ie
Login: dcu_societies Password: SocsDCU (case sensitive)
Login and look at "My Previous Nominations" - you can see the past 3 years' worth of nominations there - we're "Best Event - Large College"
If there's anything NOT included in the application, TELL ME so that we can figure out how to get it included in the supplementary material....
Speaking of which, here's what we've got so far, material-wise (stuff TBC in bold)
- Scrapbook
- Behind the Scenes DVD from Alan McHale
- does anyone have a copy of The Helix Brochure that features RENT? I cut mine up for the scrapbook...
- Copies of Program, Flyers, Posters & Stickers
- (coming soon) Showreel DVD (10-15 mins) from MPS
- T-Shirts (everyone going should wear them!)
- Can we bring Damien's Santa Costume?
- The Framed "Seasons Of Love" Sheet Music & Photograph that you guys gave me at the Wrap Party (need this back!)
- Cian: you have soft copies of all those brillo photos used in the scrapbook - can we get some more printed (aaargh) and maybe make up picture boards like we did last year for Drama? They were great....We'll need the entire committee on this!
- any other suggestions are more than welcome
Supplementary Material needs to be ready by MONDAY NIGHT and I'll bring it to Athlone with me on Tuesday morning...
3): Presentation to other Nominees
This is something new that BICS have come up with for this year. According to the BICS Handbook, this is an opportunity to show the other nominees what RENT is all about - we are invited to make a SHORT (5mins) presentation to the other nominees so that they can get a feel for what DCU Drama and RENT is all about. This can be a powerpoint, or whatever. This is followed by an open discussion - sort of a questions and answers session if you like. This is not marked by the judges, it's just an opportunity to share our love of RENT with students from other colleges!
I'd suggest a powerpoint presentation, made up of screen grabs, Cian's photos, copies of posters etc, with the interview panel (Ed, Jenni & John) waxing lyrical about the wonderfully fantabulous experience that was RENT.
Suggestions on a postcard...
4): Strategy Session & Committee Help
We need to meet and have a BICS strategy session, the sooner rather than later - can you all lemme know when you're available and we'll get this party started!
To the DCU Drama Committee - we need your input and help on this one, as many bodies as you can spare, especially if we are gonna make up presentation boards like last year - they're a lot of work!
Prozac, Heavy Drugs & Group Hugs
