Hey Can I just say, in relation to ISDA, that I'd really like for us to send down 'The Play's the Thing' for a number of reasons: 1. We managed to secure an extremely sought after bonus spot. UCD and TCD are resorting to all kinds of dirty tactics in order to get their hands on more of these coveted places (you'll be glad to know that Galway were eventually the winners of the controversial lotteried slot). I really think it'd be great for us to have two entries in contention this year, as the two shows are polar extremes and really provide a great showcase for the talent that exists here in the college. 2. I realise that it's my bad for not communicating this information earlier but, saying that, the lottery was only held a couple of weeks ago (after the submission date) and, until then, the cost of multiple entries had never really been an issue. Promotion for both shows is already underway and I really don't think the organisers in UCC would appreciate our withdrawal. Our relationship with ISDA has been somewhat strained in the past and I really don't think we'd be doing ourselves any favours by pulling out the week before the festival. 3. I appreciate that people might have an issue with the cost of entry, especially considering the length of the piece. €250 is* not *that much. When you consider how we're currently splashing out over €10,000 on a musical, I really don't see why the cost of entry should be an issue. Bear in mind as well that Mark has already booked his flight down to Cork. Ok, I think I've talked enough shite for now, I bid you adieu. Hi gang,
We have confirmed with ISDA that we have to pay 250 euro PER ENTRY for the awards.
Hmmm, in an impromptu chat with Eoin last night, I offered the following solution:
Let's send down The Play's the Thing anyway WITH a script change along the lines of "Can you beleieve the rent we have to pay for this theatre? This show is costing us 25 euro PER MINUTE!"
...or something.
Anyhoo, if you like it, I'll send along the suggestion to Ashi.
OTHER NEWS:
I only realised last night after getting home that I won't be around for the 1st half of next week. Which means that I won't be around for the set-design workshop OR the vocal projection workshop...
I need to pass the buck over to Eoin/Dave/random volunteer.
Anna from the DLI is our contact for the set-design workshop - the guy running it would like a cheque for 50 euro to cover expenses and petrol etc. Her email address is studentofficer@dli.ie and her number is 086 129 0387. She's available after 3pm, and we need to contact her to see if the workshop is still going ahead. I emailed her a few days back to say that our set will be built before the worshop begins, and would that cause an issue? I have received no reply. Somebody needs to contact her. Eoin, Dave?
Gaiety School of Acting diction & Vocal projection workshop:
Diarmaid Murtagh is our contact, they'll be coming in for 7pm tuesday of week 7. His number is 087 673 0617. They'll do the workshop for about half an hour, but we need to advertise BOTH of these workshops! ( the set-design has to have DLI mentioned on any poster).
I will still write the announce drama email from Rome!
I'll call around to you guys about this in the next day or so. Sorry, it's just stuff I forgot to mention last night...
