I made that point already too. Firstly we don't have a meeting room booked for then and monday nights are very popular so they might all be gone. Secondly, if it was anyone else we would let them know that if they really want to be apart of something then they make it when they have to. Actors have to show up at the designated audition time and the director and producer dont move to suit the actors. This was something bref failed to adhere to this year also as he showed up and demanded to be seen first as he "had to go". Thirdly, I think it looks like an entire meeting is being given over to sorting out next years musical and I think Alan Kinsella should be present to have a right oul natter about all the pros and conns and Alan cant make Monday as he has a show opening in the Helix. I would also like to see past producers there to give a bit of an insight into what works and what doesn't within DCU. (ideally Kevin Delaney and Riona would be there to start). There are alot of other things that need to be done at this monday's meeting and I would hate to see them go by the way side but if you do go ahead and have the meeting start at 5.30 then I think we should ensure that Claire and Riona are there as nether Alan, Kevin or myself can make it. Because I'm not going to be there I'd like to put a couple of my own points across before the meeting. 1: Regardless of how well people did or did not work with bref this year gone you must look at his proposal fairly and without spite as he has volunteered to do this next year. 2: If his proposal reflects rumour and he is planning on not doing the hard work and delegating everything then I think it would be a bad idea to have him produce the show that takes the most commitment and that you get the least thanks for. The producer of the musical, if they do their job right is neither liked nor visible within the production as many times difficult choices need to be made that will not have everyone linning up to be your best friend (eg, my address to the cast about their lack of participation when it came to promoting the show). 3: Find out what his main priorities are going to be around the time of the musical, if he is going to spreading himself thin and not give the production 110% then maybe he should not produce the show but dont rule him out as a member of the production team (provided he wants to be a part of a team). Lastly, and this is just my own opinion here but.....
From what I've read of the proposal so far Bref seems to want to be the one telling everyone else what to do and he plans on having the committees of several societies running around implementing his ideas and if Drama starts running for him now then that just sets a precedent for the rest of the year. I think it is important this gets sorted before the exams start especially with people going abroad as soon as the exams finish but at the same time I would hate to see the committee compromised. If bref really wants to do this then he can make himself available when it suits the committee.
I know that you are all starting your exams this coming Monday and I would like to wish you all luck.
