If anyone from the new committee is interested, from May 22nd - 30th there is show in Skerries of highlights from musicals. It might give some insight if you guys are thinking of doing a classic show, so to speak. Anyway, I can arrange tickets for peanuts, and ye can get a 33 bus. Incidentally, if DCU Drama wanna run it as a summer theater trip we have a link with the company (Magic Carpet) and we'll get seated for practically nothing. Shows include: The Wizard of Oz The King and I HMS Pinafore The Mikado Oklahoma! My Fair lady Fiddler on the roof Personally, the Gilbert and Sullivan stuff is priceless, really clever, catchy arrangements and lends itself well to the stage because it's so over the top being a satire and all. But vocally it's quite complex, so that's probably a non-runner. Anyway, the same guys did a similar show last year which included scenes from Les Miserable Guys and Dolls 42nd Street Chicago Fame The sound of music Oliver A chorus line and a few others I can't recall now. I have a dvd of it if it's of any use. Olga is / was the musical director for both shows.I would suggest getting her or someone with the ability to re-arrange when needed and to have realistic ambitions and plans for music (ie: A pro!) because it makes everything a hell of a lot easier. We've used students before and it never quite worked, but that doesn't mean it can't. I would be so bold as to suggest that it would be easier for students to direct the acting and dancing, but I would be hesistant to let go of a proper MD. Perhaps Liana knows people in this regard? Alan is great, but fucking hell, he's expensive! Anyway that's my 2c. Aida sounds cool, but most modern shows are bloody expensive if the rights even are available. DCU Drama did Jesus Christ superstar a few years back, is that an operetta or a musical? I prefer operettas but realistically musicals are easier to deal with :) Oh, and John, I won't be at today's meeting, I'm up to my eyes at the moment.
