Dear Mr. Markey,
We note from the DCU Web site that you have mounted or plan to mount a production of Singulatitis at a one-act play festival.
The title and description of the script bear an astonishing resemblance to Singulatitis by Troy Shearer, published by Lazy Bee Scripts.
Nobody from DCU has purchased scripts or performance rights to Singulatitis by Troy Shearer, therefore, if it is the same script, any performance and any use of the script constitutes a breach of copyright actionable in a court of law.
Please immediately purchase the scripts and performance rights from the Lazy Bee Scripts web site (www.lazybeescripts.co.uk) or send me a copy of the script to demonstrate that it is not in any way a breach of Mr. Shearer's copyright.
Yours sincerely,
Stuart Ardern Lazy Bee Scripts
Hi Stuart, Apologies for only getting back to you now but I had to examine the situation in depth to find out what happened. The play in question was planned to go on in September 2008 as part of a One Act Festival. Our then PRO Cian Markey had mentioned to the committee that he was interested in putting on a the play, Singulatitis, a short time before the event. The committee told him to get the rights ASAP and to start production once they arrived. After the meeting we had to update out website, we advised our webmaster to put up the list of plays in the festival and he included Singulatitis based on the presumption that Mr.Markey would obtain the rights. The production never happened. Mr Markey did NOT apply for the rights nor did he obtain the script. As the production of the festival took up a lot of time, we did not think to update the website and take down the advertising of this play. As DCU Drama elect a new committee every year, we can only apologies on behalf of our predecessors and on behalf of Cian. I assure you that the advertising of any play that is rights protected will not happen until we have received said rights. Thank you for contacting us about your concern.
