Hello Ken approached me last week about getting some photos for Flashback, I said I'd mail him the photos, but it slipped my mind and I only sent them off today after a kick up the arse from Riona. However, I was never given a deadline for the photos, or any other details, and I could have been mailed again if it was that pressing..waiting until after the deadline has lapsed to remind me to send him the photos probably wasn't the best tactic. He has the photos now...hopefully. As for the Macbeth thing, fuck it...if the kid can get a cast together, and can get them to learn their lines...he can go right ahead in my opinion. Macbeth is a tough play, and I'd be surprised if he could do it...but by god it'd be cool if he could! If we can do a greek tragedy, we can do a fucking Shakespearean one. Think of the money children! Anyway, I hate you all and I'm leaving the committee. Only kidding, I love yiz, yiz are only massive. Seriously, let's all go get drunk and get annoyed at eachother...or whatever. You all take this so fucking seriously, sometimes it's a little scary. We're falling down on simple things like communication, manners, showing the hell up, but we've got a solid bunch of people who, while a tad mercenary, are willing to give it a go. This isn't brain surgery people, so let's all cool it...get the little things right, communicate better, and things will be grand. I promise! Anyway, Bev's play is going to kick fucking ass, we're going to promote the hell out of it, I'm going to try to talk to as many classes as I can, prostitute myself for the good of the committee...there, you've made me say the word prostitute. So, suck it up, let's go hang up posters and talk to people. If you tell them to come, they'll come...jesus, I can think of 50 worse reasons (usually revolving around food) not to study than going to a play in the helix...people are LOOKING for a diversion other than the poxy bar. Please, whoever is free tomorrow, put up posters, talk to classes (posters don't work any more in case you hadn't noticed...people are barely aware when a television is on in the room, so silent, still images on paper are a bit "meh"), and whatever. Macbeth, go for it, trip to Italy, let's go for it, musical, go for it, all that shit. Seriously, we fucking rule, we've got the money and the talent...no whinging, just show the fuck up, mind your manners, and keep communicating ALL the time. I love yiz! Your webmaster has all the faith in the world and will be on hand with hugs, carrying of sets ability, rudimentary carpentry skills, and all that logistical stuff that takes ZERO talent. I've been on a lot of fucking committees and bullshit, this is a good one...honest. Go team Paul On Thu, Nov 27, 2003 at 11:25:37PM +0000, Elaine wrote:
Hey Mebd/committee
There's a couple of points I'd like to make
I know you've been really really busy lately and like we've all said before communication in this committee sucks.
This report for flashback for example was supposed to be submitted yesterday. In fact according to Ken he approached us over 3 weeks ago. But i certainly didnt know about it until Ken approached me today in the Clubs and socs area after which I gave him links to our photos and told Riona about it asap. We are all very busy and cant be expected to pull things like this out of thin air especially when we have deadlines to be making. As for him giving the space, i don't know if you're aware but we aren't actually guaranteed it. Redbrick and every other soc-committee with a substantial membership have been mailed offering them the same space. Basically the first 2 groups with good articles win. getting half a page each. I'm assuming this is because he got pissed off waiting for us to come back to him.
Secondly....quit shooting the first years down! A new member shows up with an idea of putting on his first ever production. He's studied what he wants to do and there is a large portion of the college who'll be familiar with the the play. He's talking about putting it on for DCU and leaving cert students and it will be great P.R. for us for even making the
effort. We dont have to put on something worthy of the irish drama awards it just has to have an interest.
He's looking at a budget of less than 500 euro and he wants to put it into an empty second semester calendar and it's a fantastic "Fresh" event for first years to have a stab at and if it totally flops (although we the committee wouldn't allow that to happen because we are there to help in any shape or form) then we can pass it off to inexperience but an educational one none the less.
I haven't heard you be positive about much this year and I was shocked and appalled at the way you yourself practically laughed in his face in weldons the other night. Especially when he was one of the few newbies let alone any memebrs who bothered to show up. If you'd given him half a chance he'd a write up ready for the committee to look over but felt completely belittled. not exactly brilliant for committee/member relations.
Enough said, rant over. I think we all need to vent at each other on things like this because if we don't shit will pile up and I don't want to see the last 4 weeks repeat itself.
See you all Monday
Elaine
