Dear Sarah,

As the Technical and Equipments officer of the DCU Drama Committee, I wish to present the following issues to the SU on behalf of our society.

During the SU Freshers Ball, the Portable Lighting system (which is the property of DCU Drama, and not the SPC/SU) was removed from the SPC storage room (upstairs in the HUB) without any permission, or even notification to the committee.

When the lights were returned, they were left lying on the floor OUTSIDE of the equipment room. Only for the fact that I happened to be passing by they would have spent the weekend sitting in the pool area, which has proven to be especially unsafe, given the recent theft of a large amount of equipment belonging to Anime/Manga Soc.

When I plugged the lights in to make sure they were still working, I found that 3 bulbs had been broken. These are specialist bulbs, and do not come cheap, and as a result we will be forwarding an invoice for replacements shortly.

Later on that same night, as the SU cloakroom was filling up, Shea McNelis asked me if he could borrow some coat hangers from the Drama Society. After looking in the SPC room, I found that the only hangers we had were being used to store clothes.

Shea told me that if we let him borrow them, he would have someone put the clothes back on the hangers the next day. In the interest of forging a good relationship between Drama and the SU, I agreed.

More than a week and a half later, this still hasn't happened yet. Drama's costumes are still in a pile on the floor, and I have received a number of complaints from both the SPC and other societies about the state of the room. We cannot clean up until we get the clothes back on the rail.

I have also received a complaint from Mark Boyle about the sound system in the Venue. Text attached:

"I was in the venue last night and whoever did the sound for the SU gig
last week moved the FX rack from the balcony to behind the stage and
left it there. (If memory serves, it usually takes 2-3 people to move
the rack even a few meters because it's so damm heavy, so moving it
back is going to be fun.) They also removed several parts from it and
left them lying on the floor and on the table on the balcony. Several
lights (Destroyers I think) were taken from somewhere and left lying
on the floor. I can't recall where the sound desk is gone to but I
dont think it's on the table.

Basically all the work we paid Derek Williams, Technical Field-Agent with Magic and Mayhem, to do throughout the summer was undone. More importantly, the place currently is in more of a mess than any society has ever left it. At the moment it would be difficult if not impossible for anyone to hold any event there."

DCU Drama has always made itself and its facilities (where possible) available to as many students that need them. We feel that this generates feeling of goodwill between all of us and that is what student life is all about.

However, we do ask that said facilities be treated in a respectful manner, and unfortunately this has not been the case so far this year. We hope that there will be no repeats of infractions such as the ones mentioned above.
