Hey guys,
Just a report back from the ISDA meeting in DIT today:
The last ISDA meeting of the year saw elections for the positions of Chair and Treasurer of the ISDA Council. Aoife from UCD (the one who caused the big ruckus in the build-up to the festival) was unopposed for the position of Treasurer and so was deemed elected.
Then came the election of chair with two candidates, Eoin Kilkenny of UCD and the now infamous Dara Gilroy of UCC (J-Lo award nominee). Given that Gilroy has succeeded in offending several of my fellow-committee members at various stages and knowing that Eoghan went to school with Kilkenny and thinks highly of him, there was no question of where my vote was going. Unfortunately, J-Lo won out by the narrowest of margins (just one paltry vote) - boo-urns.
On a more positive note, we have been asked to host the first ISDA meeting of the next academic year - woohoo! I think it's a quite a privilege to be asked, given that we're a non-executive member, and reflects how much relations between ourselves and ISDA have improved (gormless Gilroy aside). It's set to take place on Saturday the 14th of October and I think, regardless of the outcome of Mo0nday night's elections, I'd still like to be involved in organising this, if that's alright?
Anyhoo, hope ye're all enjoying yizzer weekends,
Joey
