Oh dear god guys, Im stressed enough as it is. Aida - not available! Stop wasting time discussing its difficulty. Hot Mikado was up at Aida's difficulty level...if not even harder!! We're not judging the show on its difficulty cuz our MD (when we get one) can make the necessary adjustments. And before you get into it - Grease - ALSO NOT AVAILABLE. Steve u have a list of things available. It hasnt changed much since then. Added is: High School Musical Thoroughly Modern Millie All For One Tick Tick Boom -check the weinberger website n' there's a list of what's available on the left hand side of the screen. Guys... not to cause an argument...
But we wouldn't be able to pull off the vocals for AIDA... checking from the piano & vocal score I have at home... it has a six part harmony in two songs at least (Dance of the Robe & The Gods Love Nubia). Which would require several excellent vocalists from SATB- we'll have tons of Soprano & alto singers, but like last years musical we'll lack the ever necessary bass and tenor singers... (more female singers than male singers)
You can say- 'fuck difficulty levels' but quite frankly it's not a show one tries to prepare in 8 weeks! Just too much work that is needed. I would love to do Aida but I think to do a "mediocre job on a brilliant musical" isn't as good as doing a "brilliant job on a mediocre musical."
High School Musical is actually a pretty enjoyable musical- and I think it may appeal more because its more well known that Aida.
Also- Aida instrumentation is this... http://www.mtishows.com/show_instrumentation.asp?ID=000266 ... which is a large orchestration and most likely something we can't afford...
And lastly... Aida isn't available...
And Grease (as much as I do love it) is both overdone and I think was something in the range of like €3000 for rights or not available at all to college societies!!!
But- Keep the ideas coming... as its more ideas to throw ideas at Jamie- we can see which ones tickle his & our fancy...
Maybe we could hold a Fashion Show instead... For charity of course... (Hides under desk)
Nite all, =) Steve

Firstly, I agree with John. Fuck difficulty levels. I don't think there's a show we couldn't pull off with a bit of hard work. That said, I REALLY don't want to do Grease. It's kinda.... pedestrian. We could mooch off the current popularity of High School Musical I suppose. It's not a fantastic show but it'll get the audiences in.

still not available.
i dont agree with the difficulty level of the singing. the version i saw in berlin had great singers but it was by no means impossible. on that note (get it, note. ) if aida isnt available , can we get a list of whats available.
is grease?
or any of the other shows that we were told werent available when we last checked in october????

Guys, to face facts...
We don't have the singers for Aida... its has WAY too complex
lines and we need an AMAZING female vocalist for both Aida &
chick. The male parts are easy enough though... I love the idea of doing Aida- but I don't think we'd fine the female vocalist with
power in her voice.
AND I stress the IMPOSSIBLE-NESS of the vocal harmony lines! We couldn't even get a 5 part harmony line for "Rock the Boat" down properly... we don't have the male or female vocalist to do justice to Aida... But that's just my opinion on Aida.
High School Musical would sell hugely to families as it is Disney... and to be able to whack that DISNEY logo on a poster will automatically make it sell. And when parents bring their kids to Disney shows
programs (I worked at "Disney on Ice" and they bought
harmony that other that range and they always buy programmes for €12!!!)
Listing to the soundtrack- yes it is cheesy- but... since it's cheesy... I obviously like it!!!
The vocals sound easy, its sounds fun, it sounds like its
make you feel good about yourself. Everything about it is appealing! (Actually I'm listening to it now as I type this... and "we're all in this together!"... S Club 7 eat your heart out!!!) Also- the dancing is limitless so it could be really 'fun' to do!
Basically- I really like Joey's suggestion... High School Musical has my vote... twice... oh the cheese...
With CHEESE please... =) Steve
