[Drama-committee] Earnestly
'The Importance of Being Earnest' on Friday week (the 5th of March, 8pm) at the Project Theatre, Temple Bar. I already mentioned this at the meeting, but just a reminder: we have 3 complementary tickets (If you like, you could even put up a ticket or two as a prize at the raffle), and I asked that 9 more be kept for us (e5 each for students). Just tell me exactly how much of this, if any, will be subsidised so I can post the news to the mailing list with a price estimate for the remaining 9. The only problem with collecting money (albeit a very small amount) is that tickets are kept for us, i.e. I don't have them in my hands to give to people. Perhaps if I get the mail out by tomorrow I can confidently guage interest, get monies from dramasoc, then get the tickets from Mark over the week-end and sell them next week. Incidentally, I know this is small potatoes in comparison to current developments with the musical, but what's the update on that cheque being sent to Mark Lynam-Loane? It's good PR if that's all resolved by the time I see him next. On another matter, I've hit a brick wall with Arsheen Qasim's play, as the reply from Drama League of Ireland explains. I've said that if she has anything else in mind, I'll check it out. In the meantime, workshop/auditions for 'lovers' is Monday & Tuesday (everybody come!). Christopher Samuel Carroll "Allah, the God of retribution and judgement, dominated their minds. How can a man love the thing he fears? When fear commands the mind the heart is imprisoned. In time I came to understand the greater and more profound prison that held our captors. For years we were chained to a wall or radiator, but they were chained to their guns, futile symbols of power, not power itself. This was something these men could never know: real power embraces; it cannot destroy." (Brian Keenan) ******************************************************************************** Thats fine i'll put then aside for you under the name "DCU". I'll have all of the tickets booked for you before you arrive for the show on the 5th march. All you need do is pay for the 9 tickets and you can collect the comps from myself. Talk soon Mark Lynam-Loane ******************************************************************************** Dear Christopher Thank you for your email. "The Shape of Things" is now restricted and not currently available for performance . The Script is due for a reprint soon. I will today send you an information pack on courses etc Regards Dara Drama League of Ireland
my 2 cents: we've never really got rights for anything before except helix stuff and the musical and isda. if its just in the hub there shouldnt really be a problem at all. this goes for all performances. lets hope no one legal reads this. its just a suggestion id like to go to earnest but i work on fridays. that cheque was signed monday so elaine can sort you out if you can meet her at some stage chris. cheers medb.

Rights have never got to be bought for any small plays DCU Drama host in little venues such as the Hub. If she feels strongly about doing things by the book, throw it at her! Ah no seriously, explain how the relative authoritative figures wouldn't go to see a play in the venue and even if they did, doubt they'd look into whether we'd gotten the rights for the play or not. And even if they did, reckon a slap on the wrist is all we'd get... yours sincerely, Margaret Catherine Mc Auliffe Oh also, cheers and thanks a million for sorting out those theatre tickets, I'd love to go see the Importance of Being Earnest but am going to Monaghan that day for the weekend but thanks anyway...

I really don't think rights need to be bought it's a waste of money because no one that cares about them will be there. Just say to her if you want rights pay for them yourself because there not needed. Cool on the theatre tickets but i go home at weekends and can't go thanks anyway.

I agree, hardly ever asked for rights before, and if theres a problem getting then we don't bother at all :) Also, on the tickets, buy about ten, that's reasonable I'd say, and I've put in a notice to An Tarbh. We've already been granted the money as far as I know. Riona ________________________________________________________ "Everyone knows that art is not truth.
